  Really enjoyed our visit to El Mezcal! We came in on Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all. The service was great — our water was always full, and we never had to wait for chips and salsa. We ordered the Chipotle Shrimp and the Shrimp Chimichangas, and for the chimichangas we tried them soft instead of fried. That was a different way to have them, but they were very, very good! Everything was super flavorful with a nice smoky chipotle flavor without being overly spicy. The cheese sauce on the shrimp chimichangas was especially good. I also really enjoyed the guacamole, and it was a nice bonus that it was included with the chimichangas. Both dishes were $19.99, which I thought was a great value for the quality and portion.

  Last night, the better half was craving Mexican food, so we decided to venture out and try a restaurant we hadn’t visited before. Overall, there were several things about the experience that were genuinely impressive, but the food itself ultimately fell short of what I’ve come to expect from a really good Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere was excellent. The restaurant was inviting, comfortable, and had the kind of environment that makes you want to settle in and enjoy your meal. The service was equally impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the entire visit. From a hospitality standpoint, they did an outstanding job. The surprise came when we looked at the menu and realized it was essentially identical to the menu at another Mexican restaurant we had visited the week before. I’m assuming there may be common ownership or some connection between the two. Unfortunately, our experience with the food at that restaurant had also been somewhat underwhelming, so seeing the same menu immediately raised some concerns. This time, I deliberately ordered something different, and my meal was good. It was prepared well, the portion was generous, and there was nothing inherently wrong with it. The issue was simply that it lacked the depth of flavor and distinction I’ve experienced at some of the better Mexican restaurants I’ve visited over the years. That is ultimately where I would place this restaurant. Good, but not exceptional. There is a difference between enjoying a meal and having a meal that makes you want to return specifically for the food, and for me, this one didn’t quite cross that line. The atmosphere and service deserve very high marks, and those two things certainly made the evening enjoyable. The food, however, was the weakest part of the experience. It wasn’t bad by any means, but compared with some truly excellent Mexican restaurants I’ve experienced, it was lacking. We enjoyed our evening and I’m glad we tried it, but the search for that standout local Mexican restaurant continues.

  I visited yesterday with my son and three grandkids. The kids wanted to visit an unnameable fast food place that purports to offer Mexican food. I googled Mexican food near me and this restaurant appeared. The service was excellent: Nancy, they are lucky to have you. Prompt, courteous, smiling and on the ball, never hovering but always available. Her suggestions spot on; her explanations clear and easy. The ambiance was nice. A large place but the Mexican artists and art on the walls add character. The food was brought quickly. It was delicious, the kids ordered more. Everyone was happy. This is the place to go to…it will be for me. Again, Nancy…a star!
