It is truly sad how far the once quite decent Carrabba’s has fallen. Roberta and I had dinner at Carrabba’s on Father’s Day. The reason that we chose Carrabba’s was that the restaurant wasn’t particularly crowded whereas most others had significant waits to be seated. We should have waited elsewhere. Roberta ordered the Chicken “Marsala” (the quotes will become obvious later) and I had the Eggplant Parmigiana. We both ordered salad and both chose the Penne Pomodoro as our side. Roberta’s Chicken “Marsala” was 1/2 of a grilled chicken breast topped with a scoop of some brown-type overly thick gravy. No, that’s NOT Chicken Marsala. Chicken Marsala is a pan sautéed chicken breast with a Marsala Sauce built around the mostly cooked protein. This concoction was pure trash. She ate half of it and did not want a box to bother to take the rest home. Good call, Roberta. We would have simply thrown it away. My Eggplant Parmigiana was two overly thick slices of eggplant (if they’re too thick then the dish is slimy rather than savory; that’s not generosity but, rather, poor culinary understanding) lightly fried then covered with a tasteless breadcrumb coating and baked until a topping of mozzarella cheese melts. I, too, only ate half of my 5-star dinner before eschewing a box and leaving the rest behind on the plate. It just wasn’t worth the effort to put that sad leftover into a container, just as Roberta’s sorry meal wasn’t worth taking home. As well, the tomato sauce that was used both for my Eggplant Parmigiana and for our (very overcooked and not even close to al dente) pasta was lifeless and mostly flavorless. No intense tomato flavor. No acid. No real seasoning. Just blah and boring. One bright spot was that the Extra Virgin Olive Oil that was placed on the table with the (OK, but nothing special) bread was green, fruity, and fragrant. Well, at least something was tasty. So, not much to show for an $80 meal. Sorry, that was the last straw. Color us gone. Good luck, Carrabba’s. Unless you get your act together, and soon, your luck’s probably going to run out. Update: Carrabba’s corporate communications group responded with the usual corporate garbage; never taking responsibility for their crappy food but, rather, proffering the usual plastic apologies as to how very sorry they are (yeah, right) that we “feel” “that” way. News Flash: We don’t “feel” any way. Your food was crap. If you were truly sorry, you’d correct your crappy food. Now wouldn’t that be a simple fix?

We will definitely be coming back

Carrabba’s absolutely knocked it out of the park, and the stars of the show were Maria and Manager Scott. From the moment we walked through the door, the hospitality was on another level. Maria delivered what may very well be the best service I’ve ever received at any restaurant. She was attentive without hovering, personable without being intrusive, and somehow managed to make every interaction feel genuine and effortless. Her menu knowledge was exceptional, her recommendations were spot-on, and she made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. Manager Scott deserves tremendous recognition as well. Great restaurants don’t happen by accident, and it’s clear that Scott sets the standard. He was visible, engaged, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest had an outstanding experience. The professionalism, teamwork, and positive atmosphere throughout the restaurant reflected strong leadership and a true commitment to excellence. The food was fantastic, but what elevated this visit from great to unforgettable was the service. Maria and Scott embody everything hospitality should be—warm, professional, welcoming, and focused on creating memorable experiences. In an era when exceptional customer service is becoming increasingly rare, these two are a shining example of how it’s done. Carrabba’s is fortunate to have them, and customers are fortunate to be served by them. We left impressed, grateful, and already looking forward to our next visit. Five stars aren’t nearly enough. Bravo, Maria and Scott—you turned dinner into an experience.
