I took my wife to Morton's for mother's Day dinner Sunday night, and I can't tell you how disappointed I was. Let me start off by saying I've been going to Morton's since the early 1990s when it was called Mortons of Chicago. I used to go to the one in Manhattan on 45th Street. In fact I went so often that at one time I had One of the private lockers. I still might have my old Morton's card. Back then it was my favorite restaurant. I used to love when they brought the cart around and showed those thick juicy steaks, the giant potatoes and the giant tomatoes. I used to always get the 24 oz porterhouse steak. Sometimes I would even get the 48 oz but most of the time it was the 24 oz. And, hopefully I remembered to order the souffle because if you didn't order it while you gave the server your dinner order it was too late. You couldn't get it.
Fast forward 35 years. I'm now in Florida and we went to the Mortons in Boca for dinner Sunday night. I have to say I haven't been to Morton's in quite some time. Maybe 10 years, maybe longer. But, has this restaurant changed. Where were those big thick juicy steaks? Look, I know menus change, menus evolve, but those steaks were the signature part of Morton's. That's why you went there for those juicy thick steaks. As far as my dinner goes, the service was as good as it always was, but there were major disappointments that I'd like to address. first. I had to wait 20 minutes to get bread. 20 minutes. Everybody around us was eating bread. We got our bread just as our appetizers were coming out. The appetizers were very good. The bacon wrapped scallops with the apricot chutney was delicious just like it used to be and the addition of the wagyu beef dumplings were very good as well. Which brings us to the steaks. What a disappointment. I had to settle for a ribeye. I ordered it medium rare it came out medium to medium Well. I didn't want to complain because the table next to me already returned their steak twice. My wife ordered the surf and turf with the filet and lobster tail. She only ate half of a filet and half of the lobster tail and it was okay. We ordered bearnaise sauce that tasted like mayonnaise. It was so thick it didn't pour on to the steak you had to use a spoon to take it out. But the biggest disappointment of all is when we asked the server to box up what was remaining from my wife's dinner, which was half of the remaining lobster tail and half of the fillet with the mashed potatoes and the sauteed spinach and mushrooms. Which he did but when we got home The only thing in the box was the mashed potatoes. What a disappointment!! Also, are the steaks still prime? My steak was the opposite of juicy and the opposite of tender. maybe because it was overcooked. I could have gotten this same steak at Texas Roadhouse or longhorn. Infact I'm sure it would have been better. Not what I expect from Morton's which is why I went there.

I had a great experience at Morton’s The Steakhouse! The food was delicious. But what really made the night special was our server, Brittany — she was absolutely amazing! Friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Great service and a wonderful dining experience all around. Highly recommend!
