What an odd dining experience. Unfortunately, pretty much everything about the service was disappointing.
My coworker and I sat down and were given one menu for two people. Weird, but okay-we asked for another. Our waiter eventually came over, took our order, and then essentially disappeared for the rest of the meal. There were maybe three tables occupied in the entire restaurant, so it’s not like they were slammed.
Then, while we were in the middle of eating, a food runner came over with edamame that we had never ordered. We politely told him it wasn’t ours. He walked away while giving us a rude glare, and said, “I’m 99% sure you guys ordered this.”
We didn’t.
I’m still trying to understand why he was so confident about what we ordered when we were the ones sitting at the table. 😂 Mistakes happen. A simple “Oh, sorry about that” would have been perfectly fine. The attitude, however, was completely unnecessary and honestly shocking.
Eventually our waiter reappeared, offered us boxes, and brought the check. My coworker had purchased a Groupon for this restaurant as a belated birthday gift for me. We were then told they no longer accept Groupons. Fine -we weren’t going to argue about it, and she simply paid with a card.
At that point, we wanted to speak with a manager. Our waiter said okay, walked away, and then came back and told us the manager was “out.” We asked if there was a shift lead, supervisor, or anyone else in charge who could speak with us. Apparently not. Instead, another waiter was sent over to speak with us.
I’m sorry, but what? I’ve genuinely never experienced a restaurant where a customer has an issue and there is literally no one in a managerial or supervisory role available to address it. If the manager isn’t there, that’s understandable. But who is running the restaurant? Who is responsible for handling customer concerns when something goes wrong?
The food itself was just okay. Certainly not bad, but also not remotely impressive enough to justify the prices. We understand that Boca restaurants can be expensive, but if you’re going to charge those prices, the food and service should give me a reason to come back.
The biggest issue wasn’t the extra menu, the Groupon policy, or even the mistaken edamame. It was the attitude and complete lack of attentiveness throughout the entire meal. We were in a nearly empty restaurant and somehow still felt ignored.
A restaurant doesn’t have to be perfect. Orders get mixed up, policies change, and mistakes happen. But when a customer tells you they didn’t order something, responding with “I’m 99% sure you guys ordered this” is certainly one way to ensure they won’t be coming back.
Unfortunately, we won’t.
