  This restaurant is not a 5 star or even close. Our reservation was at 9:30 pm and we were seated promptly. While excited to eat here and it was our first time, the menu looked appealing. Except for the beers, almost everything we ordered was a big miss for the price and the hype. We eat a lot of sushi and Asian cuisine regularly, and this ranks as close to bottom of any restaurant experience we’ve had (combining food, ambience, service and overall feel). Because of all the 5 star reviews, I resisted giving it 1 star. And honestly, I’m not sure how on a busy Thursday evening this could be an “off night” for the restaurant. From overcooked edamame, to tasteless miso soup, bland salad, and very marginally prepared sushi rolls, we won’t go back and the $200 we spent for 3 people was not worth it.

  The best restaurant experience we’ve ever had. My wife and I went to O-Ku in Alys Beach for our 2-year anniversary, and I genuinely don’t know how another restaurant is going to top this experience. When I made the reservation, there was a section for special requests. All I wrote was: “2 year anniversary!! Her favorite color is green and she loves elephants.” O-Ku absolutely ran with it. When we arrived, they had a gift bag waiting for my wife along with a card. Inside were two green elephant decorations with their trunks intertwined and a lavender-scented candle that said “Happy Anniversary.” That alone completely blew us away. It was such a small detail from the reservation, but the fact that the staff took the time to turn it into something so personal meant more than they probably realize. Then we got seated and met Larry, who may genuinely be the best waiter I’ve ever had. Shoutout to Larry — that dude deserves a raise. He was incredibly attentive without ever hovering, somehow always showed up exactly when we needed him, made great recommendations, and even brought us a couple of complimentary items that were some of his favorites to try. He made an already special night even better. And then came the food… My goodness. We love going out, traveling, and trying new restaurants, and I can confidently say the food at O-Ku was some of the best we have ever had. Everything we tried was incredible. There wasn’t a single part of the meal or experience that felt overlooked. There are restaurants where you remember the food, and there are restaurants where you remember the service. O-Ku gave us an entire experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you to Larry and the entire O-Ku staff for making our 2-year anniversary so special. You took a simple reservation note and went above and beyond in a way we never expected. You’ve officially become part of our anniversary tradition. We’ll see you for year 3!

  We were absolutely blown away by the service we received from Alex, his manager, and the entire team at O-Ku! We came in to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday and had an incredible experience. There was a small mistake with our food (which happens in the restaurant industry and we completely understood!) but what really stood out was the way they handled it. Before we ever complained or even asked for anything, Alex and his manager both came to our table, acknowledged what had happened, and went above and beyond to make it right. You could tell they genuinely cared about our experience and wanted to make sure we left happy. That kind of service is rare and says a lot about the people and culture at O-Ku. We come down to Rosemary Beach often, and O-Ku has definitely gained two customers for life. We can’t wait to come back! Huge kudos to Alex, his manager, and the entire O-Ku team for making my girlfriend’s birthday dinner so memorable.

  Words cannot express how amazing the experience and cuisine were at O-Ku. First off, every single menu item and drink that we ordered was simply divine. There was not one person at our table who did not absolutely love what the chef prepared. Also, as a person that does not eat seafood or sushi, I appreciated the amount of non-seafood items on the menu. The chicken skewers had to be some of the best chicken I have ever put in my mouth- seriously. But what I really need to shout out is our server, Alex, and his team. We were celebrating a birthday, and he went out of his way to ensure that we were taken care of and that our experience would be memorable for years to come. Thank you, Alex, for being such a fun and thoughtful server! You truly allowed us to have an incredible dinner that we will never forget!

  O-Ku was amazing and I will be dreaming about the Crispy Rice until the day I die. We went to O-Ku while on vacation to celebrate our anniversary and the experience was so wonderful. Our waiter was so kind and hilarious (I’m so sorry I don’t remember your name!) and we sat next to a lovely couple who was also celebrating their anniversary and had been coming to O-Ku for years! I had personally never had real sushi before and O-Ku changed my life with their sushi. My husband is now probably sad that I will be asking for more sushi dates now🤣 The staff truly know how to make your meal feel special and personalized with a sweet gift and card signed by staff for whatever event you are celebrating. And the food is phenomenal. We will be coming back every single time we come to 30A. Thank you again, O-Ku staff!
