The food melted in my mouth! The fish was absolutely delicious, especially the tuna! The food at this place deserves 7 stars.
I loved the atmosphere and the design, but there aren’t many tables for groups of 3+ people. There are lower tables available, but they’re not very comfortable for eating.
The service leaves room for improvement. There was no soy sauce for the rolls, and we had to ask for it. The server looked tired or like they weren’t happy to see us. Our empty plate wasn’t cleared away and just stayed on the table, taking up space on an already small table. I waved my hand twice to get attention and pay the bill, but no one noticed, so I ended up paying at the bar.

Patrick and Alex served us some really delicious courses!!! My favorites were the fatty tuna, hamachi, and chopped tuna 🤤🤤 Will served us some absolutely phenomenal drinks. You have to try the ‘I Dream of Lychee’ martini!!

Sushi by Bou does not have the best omakase in DC. But I actually think they have the best omakase for the price. The $70 12 piece option ($50 if you go at 5pm during the week) is a pretty good deal considering the quality and taste of the fish.
The chef, chef Alex, is clearly passionate and he succeeds in delivering a menu that is slightly different but satisfies your expectations. The miso cod had to be the highlight for me.
It's not perfect. The rice is definitely not as delicate as other place in the city, the choice to have a surf n' turf with wagyu and uni does not create something bigger than the sum of its parts, and the setting is a little too casual for an omakase date. The neon millennial decor is personally grating.
But if you care about fish. If you don't want to spend $190+. Try Sushi by Bou. You won't be disappointed.

This was my third Omakase experience. I was excited to try this as it was in my hotel and I wasn’t feeling like venturing out too far after working all day. I had signed up for the $70 course, but was encouraged by the chef and staff to go up to the $100, as “everyone else” attending was doing the Bougie Experience. I said okay, only to find out that it was literally one other couple doing the experience at the same time. This was my first red flag.
The food itself was fine. Some pieces were pretty fishy, but overall it was okay. More pieces were cooked/charred more than I’d expect for Omakase. The chef who we had was white, did not train abroad, but used a quasi-Japanese accent the whole time. It was odd.
The couple next to me was young, and the chef kept pressuring them to buy more. When the young lady would ask for more water, he would hand her a bottle Saratoga Spring water instead of using the carafe beside him. The bartender stepped in and grabbed the carafe for her instead.
One other note— there was a man eating alone in the restaurant, and he was a bigger guy. The sushi chef kept rolling his eyes when he would order more, and he kept saying stuff implying that he was making “special” food for him. He also kept encouraging him to buy the most expensive options.
At the end of the meal, he encouraged us all to go online for a 5 star rating and he’d fill our glasses to the brim with sake. At this point, I had ordered two drinks that never came, so I was ready to just get out of there. When I said I didn’t want more sake, he rolled his eyes and didn’t speak to me at all, despite us having some fun conversations all night. It was so weird and childish.
Overall, the sushi was fine. The best part of it was the view, and getting to chat with the couple next to me. I thought this place felt gimmicky and scammy, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend the Omakase experience to others.

We had such a special night at Sushi by Bou, and so much of that came down to Chef Patrick.
From the moment we sat down, he struck that perfect balance of being attentive without ever hovering. He checked in at just the right moments, picked up on our reactions, and made the whole experience feel personal—like he was genuinely invested in making Bob’s birthday celebration memorable. You can tell he cares deeply about his craft and the people he’s serving.
And the food—just incredible. We went with the Bougie Omakase, and every single piece felt thoughtfully prepared and impeccably fresh. The fish practically melted, and each course had its own little moment. It wasn’t just about great sushi—it felt curated, like a story unfolding bite by bite.
The atmosphere tied it all together. Intimate, lively, and just the right amount of energy for a celebration. It felt elevated without being stuffy, which made it easy to relax and really enjoy the night.
But truly, Chef Patrick is the standout. His warmth, attention to detail, and passion made an already great meal feel unforgettable. If you’re lucky enough to sit at his counter, you’re in for something special.
