  I've been a member of the Penthouse Pool at U Street for a few years, and the difference between then and now is night and day. Last season, service was excellent. Drinks and food arrived promptly, the food was consistently good, and while the music wasn't my favorite, it didn't take away from the overall experience. This summer has been incredibly disappointing. Drinks still arrive quickly, but the food service has become consistently unreliable. Nearly every visit has involved waiting 45 minutes or more for food, only to have to ask multiple times where our order is. On several occasions, our food never arrived at all and had to be removed from the bill. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also declined significantly compared to last year. To be fair, the staff has been one of the bright spots. Every server I've interacted with has been friendly, professional, and genuinely seems to be doing their best to stay on top of things. They consistently have positive attitudes despite what appears to be operational issues that are clearly outside of their control. As a member, it's embarrassing to invite friends when I can't be confident they'll receive the food they ordered. After multiple disappointing experiences, I've stopped bringing guests altogether. The music is another major issue. It remains extremely quiet and is almost always a repetitive loop of niche circuit/house music, often instrumental and barely audible. This isn't just my opinion; it's one of the most common conversations I hear around the pool. While everyone has different musical tastes, a broader mix of upbeat, recognizable music played at an appropriate volume would create a much better atmosphere for a pool where people are spending their weekends relaxing, socializing, eating, and drinking. Membership and the high cost of food/beverages here is a significant investment, which is why these ongoing issues are so frustrating. Last year set a high standard, but this season has been a noticeable step backward. I genuinely hope management addresses the food service, food quality, and overall atmosphere because this has the potential to be one of the best rooftop pools in DC.

  I was disappointed by my experience. The staff came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming, with no greeting or acknowledgment before assisting customers. For a gym positioned as a premium facility, customer service should be a much higher priority. Additionally, the app does not work well for pool reservations, which creates unnecessary frustration even for paying members. When members are paying close to $300 per month, they should be able to expect a seamless experience and a staff culture that reflects professionalism, hospitality, and genuine customer care. A high-end gym should not only invest in its facilities but also in creating a welcoming environment where members feel valued from the moment they walk through the door.
