A beloved West & Central African street food classic elevated for the dinner table. Tender steak skewers are marinated in a smoky, spiced suya rub — a bold mix of ground peanuts, paprika, and aromatic spices — then grilled to perfection. Served with your choice of sides.

Slow-braised for four hours until fall-off-the-bone tender, our oxtail is a labor of love. Creamy, cheesy, and baked with a rich, indulgent depth of flavor. Our guests say it's the best they've ever had — and we'll let the first bite speak for itself.
Tried this spot after seeing it on instagram with my partner and boy was the ambiance 10/10! Dyamond was our server and also the bartender and she was attentive. The kind gentleman with locs upfront was attentive and kind as well. The food was good too. But this spot of such a breath of fresh air in this area. We will be returning!

⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ (Overall: 3/5)
Lydia on H is a cozy Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Washington, D.C., offering a unique fusion of Malawian and Caribbean flavors. It’s a small but quaint spot with a mix of booth and table seating, making it a nice place for a relaxed dinner with friends.
As a picky eater visiting for the first time, I kept my order simple with wings and rice. The wings were the highlight of the meal—crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice, however, was disappointing. It was dry and lacked seasoning, and I found myself wishing it had at least a little butter and salt to enhance the flavor.
The mocktails were delicious and complemented the meal well.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The music was at the perfect volume—easy to enjoy while still being able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which made for a pleasant evening with friends.
Our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal.
One small note: the ladies’ restroom was clean but very small and narrow. It had a hook-and-latch style door but no place to hang a purse, which would be a nice addition.
Parking on H Street is always a hit or miss, so plan accordingly if you’re driving.

Overall, Lydia on H is a pleasant neighborhood spot with friendly service, tasty wings, and excellent mocktails. While the rice missed the mark for me, I enjoyed the company, the conversation, and the relaxed atmosphere. I would consider returning to try other menu items.

I’m sorry I keep trying to give this place a chance. The food is pretty good but every time I come here the service is never good. I usually suck it up because the food is good, but not worth the hassle. I ordered my food online via toast. Ordered the lamb dinner and some wings. I waited over 30 minutes. When I get there to pick it up they say someone else picked it up and they said they didn’t have what I ordered. So which one is it? As a matter of fact they didn’t have anything besides happy hour stuff, which is fair. But why would the system let me order if it’s not supposed to be available? The owner is pretty cool but this place is run poorly.
