We are so excited to have a real Chicago pizza place in D.C.! We visited recently while the Cubs were in town and had a great pre-game lunch. Our server Aneiya took great care of us. We enjoyed the personal pan pizza and salad, and a beef sandwich and fries lunch special. The pizza was fine - it was not an apples to apples Chicago comparison, but I want to visit again to try a full size pizza and a square cut before making a full decison. Sandwich was great - with super spicy peppers! The restaurant has frozen pizzas to go and a small little retail space in the front. The T-shirt with all the founding fathers around a deep dish pizza is pretty great. It's a nice addition to this part of town for vistors and the usual office lunch crowd. We will certainly be back.

Being from Chicago, I can definitely tell you that Giordano's DC does not measure up to Giordano's in Chicago. The deep dish pizza itself is iconic and delicious. But they need to add more cheese. Ordered the "Chicago Classic" and the deep dish slices was smaller compared to Chicago. At this location they make you pre-order your pizza in advance so your pizza will come out faster. When I was finally seated the pizza still took well over an hour to come out. So what's the point of the pre-order? Appetizers came out before our drinks which should never happen. When our pizza finally came out the server brought it to another table. Then he realized he made a mistake and i told him it was my order. They need a better system with identifying tables. These things have never happened in my experiences in Chicago. And they need to fix it.

When I found out that there was going to be one opening in DC, I was so excited! Had Giordano's in Chicago a couple of years ago and it was the BEST deep dish pizza I have ever had! And dreamed of going back to Chicago to eat it one day. Today, I finally got to the DC location and the restaurant was so cute. Loved the service and it was super clean and cool on a hot and humid day in DC. Got the deep dish pizza and if I never had it in Chicago, it probably would have gotten 5 stars, but because I knew what it was supposed to taste and look like, I could not. The crust was much thinner at the bottom to a point that it was soggy. And there wasn't much of a cheese pull compared to Chicago. When I went in Chicago, the cheese pull was so high and thick that standing up wasn't high enough to get the pizza on the plate. There was way less cheese in the DC store than in the original store and yes, there was a thin cheese pull, but it wasn't super thick and very oozey like it was in Chicago. So, needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. I am not sure if I'll be back. May give it one more shot only because it is supposed to be such great pizza.

Dear ownership group: read this in its entirety. Your lazy employees and their slow feet ruined my birthday. I would give this place a zero if I could. I sat IN THE RESTAURANT for damn near an hour waiting on an appetizer. Avoid this place like the plague unless you have all day and a lot of patience for just okay pizza. Our server has barely even came back around to refill waters or ask how we’re doing. When I flagged him over and asked where the appetizer was. He said “they didn’t bring the garlic bread?” while literally looking at an empty table. My brother in Christ, this is YOUR table, and YOUR responsibility, “THEY” is YOU. Then he came back and said “15 mins on the pizza, the kitchen is backed up”. If you kitchen can’t handle moderate capacity on a Saturday evening then you need to fix that. People paying $45 for a pie do not care for excuses. I don’t even care how the pizza tastes when it comes out, zero stars and no tip. Don’t do it. To whoever owns this place, get in here and fix this. This place will go out of business quickly because no pizza is worth a 1 1/2-2 hour wait. And it wasn’t. It was nowhere as good as the Chicago locations. The sauce was overly salty and the bottom crust was gummy and under cooked. I’ve had the original so I have a clear basis for comparison. This doesn’t stack up, and at $45 felt like larceny. Simply unacceptable. The odd thing is our experience seemed fairly common. The table next to use spoke with she manager. The table on the other side arrived before us and was just getting their pizza as we left. Meanwhile I saw a couple outside order pasta only to have to come out within 10 mins along with their drinks. They ate and left quicker than the 30 minutes it took is to merely get drinks. And then there was another group seated outside long before we arrived that only got their pizza 10 mins before us. If you’re gonna be bad, he consistently bad to everyone. The service 5 star is solely (and I do mean solely) for the manager who was excellent. When I got her attention she heard my complaints and comped the meal. She made no excuses for the poor and slow service either. She offered a dessert since it was my birthday and even offered a gift certificate for us to try coming back. I respectfully declined both. I wanted to leave and never come back. She was the only bright spot in this whole dining experience which is both great (cause she’s that good) and bad (because ideally I shouldn’t ever have had to speak with her). Promote this woman and please fire the staff so she actually gets to lead people with a clue who care Otherwise this place will be short lived. If you’re the owner, consider yourself forewarned.

As a Chicagoan, this is a tough one to write. This is not up to the quality you’d expect of a Chicago-location Gio’s, and I don’t think you should get a pass just because it’s a DC-port of the famous Chicago chain. I went in person with a friend of mine on the official launch night. We were expecting things to be a bit rough around the edges, but the logistics of the restaurant and service was absolute chaos. I hope the team can sort this out. We got a deep dish pie - and we received a deep dish pie, but it wasn’t great. I ordered a Chicago tavern style pizza recently for delivery - because the iconic thin crust of a tavern style pie is something I FREQUENTLY miss and honestly hold in higher regard than deep dish. It delivered COLD (not lukewarm, cold) and there was BARELY any cheese or sauce - it was pretty much entirely thin crust with some sauce on it. Way too bready. It resembled tavern style pizza only in its thinness and iconic square cuts: that was right on. But it had zero… soul? I wish my tavern style pizza was as cheesy as that last sentence, is what I’m getting at. I didn’t expect this to be at the level of Chicago Gio’s, but this fell shorter than I expected it would, to be honest. For Chicagoans craving a true slice of home, I highly recommend frozen Lou Malnati’s delivery. They reheat really nicely and are delicious.
