We walked in and there were 10 of 12 tables vacant but they had “30 reservations” LOL. (When we left an hour later 9 were vacant). The tables in the car area were covered with dishes and were never bussed. I asked to have our table wiped off by the person who delivered our food. He just turned around and walked away. The management here is completely incompetent. The only highlight is the bar staff who were doing all the work. The two hosts stood around and did nothing except say we have 30 reservations. Save your money, there are so many good and well restaurants in DC, don’t go here. (We had been going here for three years and it was all good. The last time and this time we went there, what a disaster)

Service was pretty slow, but I think we had a new waiter. I feel that the portions cold have been bigger, every person at table ate an entire appetizer and meal. The dill dip for the chips was awesome, and they had Paulaner on draft with was super cool. I had the steak and mushroom pie with a house salad. I wish there would have been tomatoes in it, but it was still good. The chips with gravy and cheese was good and the crisps with dipping sauces was good too. Wings looked good as did fish and chips. The food was really good overall, just wish it was a bigger portion. The ambiance of the restaurant was awesome. Cheese cake was excellent.

Just randomly looked up a place to grab some food near the Capitol area after visiting local landmarks and busy morning sightseeing - awesome place to take in relaxed atmosphere, good music and a variety of great food choices. Carlos was our server and did an exceptional job and was very attentive. I had the chicken bacon club sandwich with Caesar salad and my son had the Rueben with fries. Appetizer of soft pretzel bites (with cheese/bacon sauce dip) initially, topped off with dessert afterwards of bread pudding pie. Totally hit the mark. Great place to eat and relax!

The meal and the service at Elephant & Castle were quite disappointing. We chose an outside table and had been seated 10 minutes when the server first arrived. We placed our drink and lunch order at that time. The meal arrived in a reasonable amount of time (brought by someone other than our server) but our water and iced tea arrived 7 minutes after the food and only after we inquired about them. Regarding the meal, I ordered the Citris Chicken Salad which, per the menu, included only romaine. It was prepared, however, with iceberg lettuce and a single leaf of, possibly, romaine (see photo). The chicken was cold, as in from the refrigerator, not simply room temperature, and the salad was bland overall. Our server did not visit the table other than to take our drink and food order. We finished eating, and after waiting another 10 minutes, I went inside to request the check. I waited for a bit while the server printed the check and then I paid while still standing there. The entire experience was unfortunate and I would not return to this restaurant.

Updated - Management followed up with me and reached out to try and make it right. I've updated the service ranking to reflect this and appreciate the effort. Next time I'm in town I will give them another chance. Original Review: Based on the reviews, I was excited. Actually walked out of the bar at a well known "mltin" restaurant a few blocks away to try this. My server met me at the stand and explained I could "self serve at the bar area or get seated and have someone wait on me. Turns out it was the same either way. I ordered the fish and chips with an extra piece of fish and extra tarter sauce. Got my drinks quick and then things went down hill. Someone else brought my food and then not a single person came back through my section till I stood up to leave. My waiter told me he was sorry, but I was one of his last tables so he was getting his prep work done so he could be "done" when I left. When asked, I shared that the oil seemed like it had reached the end of the night too, with the chips and fish having a distinctly bitter/burnt taste. He agreed that was probably the case and apologized that I had to deal with that. Then he presented me with the processing machine starting at a 20% tip. Reviewing the bill, I said it would have been nice to at least be offered a refill on a $2.50 club soda. My second star is for him being nice about it and getting me a to go cup. However, despite the apologies, I'm still out 50 bucks. No offer to do anything about it, and disappointed that not one person checked on me once while I picked the fish out of the breading. Worst meal I've had in DC in years. Had potential.
