Delicious Persian food at a DC downtown premium cost. I've been to almost all of the Persian restaurants in the DC Metro and this one is in the top three in terms of taste but is by far number one in terms of price. Part of that calculation is also they have some of the smallest portions out of all of the Persian restaurants I've been to. If you're going for a business dinner or someone else is paying for it, this is a fine restaurant to try, but if I was in DC and was craving Persian food. I don't think this is the one I would choose.
Darvish impressed us with the food and the ambiance. We were a party of four that came in for dinner, and we left with full bellies, good conversations, and happy smiles.
Everyone had different favorites of the night. I was most impressed with the chicken kebab. Usually with cubed pieces of chicken it can get a bit dry. But the chicken kebab was juicy and flavorful. Others loved the lamb kebab which just fell off the bone with one touch. Another favorite was the chicken saffron rice which had this tart and sweet pomegranate sauce to go with the chicken and rice.
Drinks were okay. I liked how they had these wellness tonics. I only tried one and it was made with clarified cumin, meant to help with gut inflammation. I took one star off because I think our server could have been more knowledgeable about the menu, both food and drink menu. They had to refer questions to the bartender or back of house staff often. Our chicken saffron rice also came rather late (like well over an hour into the dinner) compared to everything else.
Also, I loved the decor and detail in the red bathroom. My personal philosophy in dining is that every interaction is an opportunity to impress , and I was truly wowed by how ornate the bathroom was. Felt like I was in someone’s home.

I had an amazing experience dining here, and a huge part of that was thanks to our server. From the moment we sat down, they were warm, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about making sure we had a great time. They walked us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations, explaining the dishes in a way that made everything sound irresistible—and they were absolutely right!
Every detail was handled perfectly, from timely check-ins to making sure our table had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed or overlooked. Their knowledge of Persian cuisine really stood out and made the whole experience feel more authentic and special.
It’s rare to come across service that feels this genuine and effortless. If you’re lucky enough to have them as your server, you’re in for a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend!

While staying at the Mayflower Hotel, we walked by Darvish Kitchen and immediately noticed how incredible it smelled. We knew we had to come back for dinner the next night — and I’m so glad we did!
We started with the roasted eggplant appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. It was so good that we even got to learn a bit about how it’s made, which made the experience feel even more personal and special.
For my entrée, I ordered the lamb kebab with rice. It was cooked to perfection — tender, flavorful, and beautifully seasoned. Every bite was super delicious.
What stood out just as much as the food was the service. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. It’s honestly hard to find great customer service these days, especially after COVID, when it feels like it’s become a lost art. But not here. They were attentive, welcoming, and genuinely appreciative of our business.
We were also grateful they were able to seat our group of six at 5:30 on a Thursday night with no issue. That made the evening even better.
I would absolutely recommend this place and will definitely return the next time we’re in town!
