I visited the Chipotle at 2600 Connecticut Avenue NW in Washington, DC between approximately 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM. My friend and I came in while the restaurant was not busy, and I was placing an order for myself, my three children, and my friend. Initially, one young lady was working the line by herself. As more customers started coming in, another young lady and the male Hispanic manager came out to assist. The second employee began preparing my bowls. During the preparation, the first employee accidentally knocked one of the plastic order markers (used to identify things like double meat or special order modifications) into the container of pico de gallo. She reached into the container with her gloved hand and removed the plastic marker, but the pico de gallo remained contaminated. As the second employee prepared to add pico de gallo to my bowl, she reached for the same contaminated container. I immediately stopped her and explained that I did not want any of it on my food because the container had been contaminated. She appeared confused about why I was concerned. She then removed the contaminated container but attempted to use the same serving spoon in a fresh container of pico de gallo from the refrigerated unit below the line. I stopped her again and explained that using the same spoon would cross-contaminate the new container as well. Throughout this situation, the manager stood nearby observing but did not step in to correct the food safety issue or provide guidance. Another employee then retrieved a clean container and clean spoon, but she was about to pour the contaminated pico de gallo into the new clean container. I had to stop her before she did so. She then placed the lid back on the contaminated container and appeared ready to return it to the refrigerated storage area. I told her that contaminated food should not be placed back into service. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciate that the employees were trying to help. However, what concerned me most was the apparent lack of food safety knowledge and the absence of management intervention. Cross-contamination is a serious food safety issue, and customers should not have to explain basic food handling procedures to employees. I hope this location provides additional food safety training to its staff so that contaminated food is discarded immediately, clean utensils are used appropriately, and managers actively intervene when food safety standards are at risk. I would like to continue patronizing this location, but I expect proper food handling practices to protect every customer.

This is a REALLY big reg flag of a location. I watched one of the employees temperature checking the product on the line and did not wipe off the thermometer every time he put it into a different container. I watched him take the meat covered thermometer and put it into the rice, then the beans, and then the vegan meat option. THIS IS A HEALTH VIOLATION. Cross contamination all over the place. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT COME HERE

Ran out of half their toppings "for the day" 3.5 hours before they closed, apparently. Staff were rude as if expecting the bare minimum toppings for a $13 bowl is unreasonable.
