  On Friday August 14th, between 7-8 pm, I went to this establishment. Unfortunately, despite the food being admittedly tasty, there was an issue with the billing practices (specifically listed as cashier "Messi" on my receipt) of Chercher. Despite DC law requiring verbally before the meal or prominent display on the menu of a listed "Service Charge," no such charge was told to me and the receipt came with a 20% Service Charge (see attached receipt), the maximum that can be charged. This puts people in an extremely uncomfortable position after the bill, and it seems pretty inconsiderate to even add insult to injury to try and list a "tip" section on the receipt after already siphoning off an unlisted 20%. Respectfully, this does not seem ethical and I will not be returning.

  This was my first experience of Ethiopian food, and I was very sad to leave food behind. The dishes and service were amazing.

  food was so delicious and reasonably priced for DC! we got the #1, 2 and 8. They have outdoor seating as well.

  Delicious food and lovely, helpful staff. The restaurant was kind of cramped when visiting as a large group, but seeing as the food was communal, I imagine the tight fit was is part of the charm. Not too far from downtown area.

  This spot was one of the highlights of my trip to DC! My friend and I shared the Chercher Vegan Special with the Chercher Beef Special Tibs. The vegan platter was phenomenal- super flavorful with so much variety which I loved. As for the beef, it was tender and seasoned well. Honestly, it was hard to choose which one was our favorite because everything tasted so good! And when we were running low on Injera (Ethiopian flatbread), our server gave us more. On top of the delicious food, the service was friendly and the inside was small and cozy (there's also outdoor seating too!) Overall, fantastic spot for Ethiopian food and I will definitely come back if I visit DC again.
