  Many things I've bought from the store on the past 2 months have been expired, including sauces from the Korean section expiring October 2025 and frozen chicken expiring in Sept 2025, all bought today and will be returning.

  (May 5, 2026 UPDATE) Disgusting. Back to one star. I just spent over $30 on one t-bone steak from Newtown Stop and shop. I love t-bone beef and broiled it as I always do. It looked great, but when I tried to take a bite I thought I had broiled a sidewall of the radial tires from my Jeep. INEDIBLE! It was tough and foul tasting. My dog might enjoy this mass of unchewable nerve and grizzle (he eats EVERYTHING) but I cannot bite into it. Money down the drain. I bought some frozen salmon last week that stank to high heaven when I defrosted it. The only way that I know to get individually wrapped frozen food to smell that bad is to allow it to defrost and refreeze...maybe more than once. Disgraceful!! Name brand foods are disappearing from their shelves and are being replaced with store brand stuff. Believe me, even though it is CHEAPER, it is definitely NOT a better value. Please, S&S, bring back Green Giant and and even delmonte and feed your slimy, mushy overprocessed store brand canned vegetables to the hogs. Don't try to replace the name brand manufacturers... You are simply NO GOOD AT IT! The "FRESH" fish department is a joke. Truly FRESH fish smells like the ocean, not like the garbage dump. Don't bother to try to ask a question of the fish clerk. He is as useless when he shows up as he is when he is absent (as in MOST OF THE TIME) The deli department is just as bad. The one or two good clerks that used to work there are gone. I can no longer shop at Stop and Shop for anything except basic staples (milk, bread, sale items on national brands). I travel to Caraluzzi or Shoprite or BigY for anything fresh. Once StopandShop completes the transition to all store brand merchandise I'll have no reason to go there at all. Skip to the end and read my first review. Any improvement that they might have shown have all evaporated, They are just as bad as ever. ************************* UPDATE: rating changed from 1 to 3 There seems to be an effort to improve quality and cleanliness. Produce dept has improved dramatically. There are several employees who try their best and keep this place together and running. Those conscientious employees really shine. There is a small handful of others who seem totally oblivious and uncaring and determined to drag this store down. ============• (ORIGINAL REVIEW) This is hardly a fit store for food for human consumption... other than their canned foods. Good: Prices are generally ok. Be very careful when buying perishable items. Check the "sell by" dates, even on canned items, because stock rotation is non existent, Customer service at the service desk is usually responsive and accommodating to the consumer. If you are conscientious and shop here, you will need them. BAD: BEWARE the deli department! The worst around. Machines are ALWAYS dirty. There is always a pile of old cold cut shreds on every slicer. If you order roast beef. be prepared to be chewing chunks of pastrami and liverwurst and salami that were picked up from the dirty slicer. Upon specific request, some clerks will clean the machine before slicing your order, but you'd better look first before you place your order. And NEVER take the presliced deli meat. Deli manager apparently doesn't care and is rarely available in any event. Repeated requests to have the slicers wiped down and cleaned are ignored. ANYTHING fresh must be examined thoroughly before purchase. The general rule seems to be that they are not concerned with having the freshest foods available for their customers. It seems that they try to slip through whatever marginally semi fresh meat or produce is left over and salable. if you shop here on a rainy day, or after a recent rain, beware of the leaking from the roof that may be dripping on your food.
