Was in town for FibArk, and went to Safeway for ice cream since lines were packed. Super bare staffed, line was across the whole store, customers were super rude, and they only had the self checkouts open.
The deli lady was also rude.
Teens- or tinyboppers were just gossiping and hanging out in the bathroom so we couldn’t use it

Checking out required a plethora of questions imposed by A.i. No people working checkout area on Fibark weekend, imposing a "have to do it yourself", to the benefit of data sales and non human data distributers. The local checkout person that I did see blames her failed pizza business on politics instead of her own business skills, and is absolutely one of the most nasty, negative, hubris filled people I have consistently had to see. I would suggest shopping anywhere for food than Safeway. I would give a thumbs down and negative star if I could. There quality of service is in the dirt. Used to be a quality good experience.

Lovely safeway! Well stocked and clean. a VERY nice older lady named Laurie helped us checkout when one of the self checkouts was closed. She was friendly, quick, and kind. Doesn't matter what she's earning, she deserves a raise :D

So my parents and I have lived in Salida my entire life, I've raised my child here and my husband and I live two blocks from Safeway. I've even worked at Safeway as the Starbucks manager many years ago. We shop here for the convenience of being right down the road. My husband and I just finished a beautiful hike with our two dogs and stopped to grab a few things for dinner on our way home. The cashier I had had no name tag on so I do not know her name... Strike one... I waited patiently while she finished her chat with some out of towners who had a very cute little boy. I smiled and joked as well and as he said goodbye in a cute little voice, she began to check me out... I happen to be someone who enjoys whistling, I whistled a little tune while in line and she rudely told me to stop and said it was very rude and that was a very big shock to me... I giggle a little bit and asked her if she was serious... She then told me not to laugh is it was not funny and I was rude for doing so. In complete shock I said are you kidding me right now? I said I'm sorry I just happened to be a person that kind of whistles out of nowhere sometimes it's just a habit that I have. She then continued to say that I'm a liar and that I was doing it on purpose to be rude. In shock I just continued to say wow I can't even believe this is real. She then asked me if we could move on to the payment part while I was trying to pull up my tap to pay she asked to hurry it along so that I could get out of the store. I said okay wow, and then as she proceeded to hand me my receipt she told me to never come back through her line again. Keep in mind this woman does not have on a name tag so I have no idea what her name is but like I said I am a local and I do not believe I have seen her in Safeway many times before. As she said that to me I then said that I was going to go ahead and go and make a complaint about her. I walked over to the service desk where the front end manager was after walking past another cashier that I have seen there for many years and she is very polite and I know her very well, as I told her the situation she told me to go ahead and go over there because the manager ( who I also know lol) was at the desk. When I walked up and proceeded to tell him how his cashier just treated me and acted he then shook his head and say yes we are fully aware of her and she is about to be terminated and then he told me that I should send all my friends in and everyone that I know to go ahead and whistle in her line. I laughed ... We fist bumped and I walked away. I am the general manager of the Gunsmoke travel plaza in Buena Vista and if one of my employees treated a customer that rudely they would be terminated on the spot no questions asked. You do not treat someone with such disrespect. We get people of all types coming through our store truckers, tourists, and local! Lots of people, some of them are very rude and treat us like crap but never would we ever treat them in such a disrespectful manner. I do hope that this woman loses her job as I will make sure that every person that I have ever known in this town knows exactly how that woman treats her customers (Locals of all things) I have never had a problem with Safeway or anybody in it until this day living here for over 35 years.
