- KNKevin NobleApr 19, 20261.0My recent visit to the Safeway in Gunnison was extremely disappointing. The produce section was dismal, with limited selection and items that didn’t look fresh. Shelves throughout the store were sparse, and the staffing situation was even worse. There’s no self‑checkout, only one register was open, and even that wasn’t staffed—I had to walk around the store just to find someone who could ring me up. The employees I did encounter seemed grumpy and disengaged, which only added to the frustration. Overall, it was the worst shopping experience I’ve had anywhere, and I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone.

Overall, it was a very frustrating experience with poor customer service. I would strongly recommend going to City Market instead.

Beat the crowds of City Market. Maybe not as much variety, but that can be a good thing. This store has gotten a lot better over the years and they will often surprise me with unexpected items. It’s a small store with maybe 10 employees working per shift. The staff are very friendly and the lines aren’t very long. I own a restaurant in town (Garlic Mikes) and it’s always nice to run into familiar faces of both customers and employees!
