I’ve been shopping at this Safeway for about eight years, and honestly it’s been great. The employees have always been friendly, the store is clean, and it’s become my go-to location. Then they installed a Pokémon vending machine. As a lifelong Pokémon fan, I was pumped. And before anyone jumps to conclusions, I’m not one of those people who empties the machine and flips everything online. I just want to grab a couple packs after work, experience 12 seconds of childlike happiness, and then immediately pull absolutely nothing worth more than 37 cents. Here’s the problem. There’s a short, brown-haired Safeway employee who seems to have entered into a committed relationship with this vending machine. Every time I come in, he’s standing there tapping away. One night I saw him at the machine, did all my grocery shopping, wandered every aisle known to mankind, checked out, and… he was STILL there tapping. At that point I wasn’t sure if he worked at Safeway or if the vending machine had hired him. I completely understand that Safeway doesn’t control how much Pokémon stock goes into the machine. If it’s sold out, that’s life. I shrug and move on. But employees camping the machine all day is different. These vending machines are time-restricted. If an employee gets first dibs every time the timer resets, the customers who actually shop there don’t really get a chance. It kind of defeats the purpose of putting it in the store for everyone. I’m not asking for some elaborate corporate policy worthy of the United Nations. Maybe just limit employee use to a few attempts per day while they’re working. Customers should probably have the first opportunity, considering… you know… they’re the customers. I just want to buy a couple packs once in a while for myself or my kids without feeling like I’m competing against someone whose full-time job appears to be guarding a Pikachu ATM. I’d happily update this review if that situation changes. The store itself has always been great. I just think the Pokémon machine deserves a little less employee romance and a little more customer access.

The produce and the meat are great here. They also have a different selection of products here than some of the other stores nearby. One of my favorite places to grocery shop.

As far as a grocery store goes I would say that this is the nicest one in this area of Thornton. I have mental health Problems so shopping in person in the store can be really difficult for me so I started using their pick up and delivery. I desperately wish that I could review the pick up and delivery a little bit more, Sometimes we have a wonderful experience and they pack everything nicely and pick nice produce. Other times you can tell the person who did your order came out of the womb yesterday, The order is always horribly inaccurate, Missing things, Rotten or spoiled produce, and fruit… heavy items on top of bread… soap mixed in a bag with food?? One time they gave me milk that was curdled and disgusting and had an expiration date of a month previous to when I picked it up ?!?!?! So it’s a hit or miss what your Groceries are going to look like when you pick them up. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like you can communicate in the app if they did a bad job or a good job. So sometimes I just request a refund for really damaged or spoiled items, and they Usually give you your money back.
