Tiara working at the service desk could benefit from additional customer service training and some time away to recharge. Her attitude and interactions with “certain” customers are unprofessional. If she is part of the leadership team, her conduct is especially concerning, as leaders should model professionalism, respect, and courtesy for both employees and ALL customers.

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Conduct of Day-Shift Manager Elisa at Safeway Store #757 E 20th Ave, Denver, CO 80205 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the conduct of a day-shift manager named Elisa at your Safeway store located at 757 E 20th Ave, Denver, CO 80205. On June 23, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, I completed a grocery purchase totaling approximately $70. After that transaction, I completed a separate WIC transaction consisting primarily of vegetables and a gallon of milk. During the second transaction, the cashier informed me that I had a vegetable coupon available and scanned it. After the coupon was applied, my remaining balance was one cent. When I attempted to pay the remaining penny, the register system froze and would not allow the cashier to process the transaction. The day-shift manager, Elisa, came to assist. Rather than addressing the issue professionally, she spoke to me in a rude and disrespectful manner and told me that I needed to be patient. I responded that if she knew what the issue was, it needed to be fixed. The interaction escalated, and I stated that I would leave the store rather than continue arguing over a one-cent balance. Elisa responded, “Okay, do it then.” As I began leaving the store, Elisa got on the store intercom and instructed security to come after me. I found this response unnecessary and intimidating given that the issue involved a register malfunction and a one-cent balance, not a refusal to pay for my groceries. When security approached me, the security guard listened to my explanation, understood the situation, and escorted me back into the store. The security officer was professional and respectful. I was then taken to a different cashier, who was able to complete the transaction successfully, demonstrating that the issue was with the register system and not my willingness or ability to pay. As I was leaving the store after completing my purchase, I asked Elisa for her name so I could document the interaction. She initially refused to provide it. She then stated, “You’re mad because you didn’t have enough money to pay for your groceries, that’s why you’re on government assistance.” I found this statement humiliating, offensive, and completely inappropriate. My frustration was not about being unable to pay. I had already completed a separate grocery purchase of approximately $70 moments earlier. The issue was a register malfunction that prevented a one-cent balance from being processed. Elisa’s comments regarding my participation in public assistance programs were unnecessary, disrespectful, and unrelated to the transaction. I am requesting that Safeway investigate this incident, review any available surveillance footage and audio records from approximately 2:30 PM on June 23, 2026, speak with the cashier and security personnel who witnessed the interaction, and take appropriate corrective action. Customers should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of how they pay for their groceries or whether they participate in public assistance programs. I would appreciate a written response regarding the outcome of your investigation. Sincerely, LaNiece

Safeway & Elisa Martinez, how can I get the $2.00 refunded to my card that I am owed for a product that I purchased today which was on sale but I was charged the incorrect price? I purchased the Screamin Sicilian Pan Pizza (Bessie’s Revenge), which is supposed to be $5.99, but I was charged $7.99. I realized this in the self-checkout line after I had paid. The attendant asked me to go to customer service to get my $2 refunded. I waited patiently in line—which always sucks at this Safeway—and the lady at customer service would not refund my $2 because I didn’t click the digital coupon button before I checked out. Here I am, waiting patiently, I have one item that was charged incorrectly and I am asking for the refund I am owed. Wow! The sale doesn’t end until tomorrow (6/23/26)!!!! There were zero people in line behind me. I’ve attached photos of my receipt, the SC pizza I overpaid for, a screenshot of the ADVERTISED SALE PRICE and the box of Twix that melted while I was waiting in line. It’s funny, customer service offered to replace the box of Twix but no refund on an item that was actually on sale. Were you expecting me to go all the way back to the ice cream section, grab a new Twix, and then wait in line again because you would not honor the sale price of my pizza? Safeway, Elisa Martinez and the unhappy woman at the customer service desk, you owe me $2 for an item I bought on sale and, I guess, a replacement of Twix ice cream bars. I’M NOT WAITING IN YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE ANYMORE.

I had a very disappointing experience at Safeway. The customer service was some of the worst I’ve encountered. Employees seemed uninterested in helping customers, questions were met with short answers, and it felt like nobody cared whether shoppers had a good experience or not. The store itself often feels uncomfortable to visit. There are frequently people lingering around both inside and outside the entrance, which can make the environment feel sketchy and unwelcoming. Instead of feeling like a place where you can quickly shop and leave, it often feels chaotic and poorly managed. On multiple visits, the store appeared understaffed, checkout lines were longer than they should have been, and getting assistance was frustrating. Overall, the lack of attentive customer service and the atmosphere of the store make this a location I would rather avoid. I would not recommend this Safeway based on my experience.

I've been coming to this Safeway for 5 years, and something has happened in the last year where things have gotten really bad. -Pharmacy understaffing to the point where I can't even get my medication: pharmacy is so understaffed that I have to call the phone over and over again and people still don't answer. They also have gotten to the point where I will have a prescription ordered in, and they just won't fill it unless I call and ask them if they will fill it (but then, they don't answer their phones). A few months ago, I called 20 times on one day and still never talked to anyone. Again, today, I have an urgent medication I need that my doctor called in, I have gotten no notification from the pharmacy saying they received it, and I have called 5 times with no answer. -Customer service desk is rarely staffed -they now refuse to allow patrons to get cash from their EBT cash card (even when you make a purchase) -there are constantly non-service dogs in the store, even though that is illegal. People walk right by security with their dogs and security does nothing. -The plastic bag recycling bin has disappeared, so I had to find a different grocery store to be able to continue recycling plastic bags -There are never enough cash registers open. There is always a line no matter how dead the place is because they don't have enough lanes open. -the manager Kiara is extremely hostile and rude to customers It didn't used to be like this. It's really become an unpleasant place to go. At this point even though I live 3 blocks away, I do most of my grocery shopping at other stores, even though it's a longer drive.
