I visited the Jimmy John’s at 5220 Wadsworth Bypass in Arvada on July 18 at approximately 5:13 PM. I ordered a JJBLT combo with double bacon and fully acknowledge that I requested the double bacon. My complaint is not about paying for it—it’s about how I was treated.
The cashier accepted my payment before telling me the total. He gave me a quarter back so I asked for my total and he said 19.75. Before my sandwich was made, I asked for my receipt so I could verify everything was correct, but I was told I wouldn’t receive it until after the sandwich was made. Once I finally received it, I noticed I had been charged for extra bacon twice. I thought it would have been one charge not two.
I politely asked if the transaction could simply be refunded, the sandwich taken back, and rung up correctly and made with what I meant 1x more extra bacon not 2x more. As I didn’t know double bacon was going to charge me twice. I was not asking for free food and even offered to return the sandwich. Instead of trying to resolve the misunderstanding, the employee in the red shirt repeatedly accused me of trying to get free food, kept telling me to “take accountability,” and even after I repeatedly accepted responsibility for ordering double bacon, he told me to “take accountability and leave with it.”
I also felt like I was being teamed up on by two of the three employees working at the time instead of someone trying to help resolve the issue.
When I asked the employee for his name, he refused to provide it. He then demanded my name, and I gave it to him. After I gave him my name, he told me he would “be on the lookout” for my review so he could “tell the correct story.” Shortly afterward, he started screaming at me, and I immediately screamed back. I take responsibility for raising my voice, but I did not initiate the yelling.
The employee then threatened to call the police and told me I was trespassed from the store.
I’ve been coming to this location for a long time because it’s close to my work and have never had a problem before. That’s what made this experience so disappointing. What should have been a simple misunderstanding turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had.
I hope management reviews the security footage from around 5:13 PM on July 18. I’m not looking for free food or revenge—I simply believe customers deserve to be treated with respect and that misunderstandings should be handled professionally.
Note: I still got my food and ate it. I never had a remade done and never had a refund and redo order. I left with my initial first order because he refused to help me. I do not want a refund. I simply want this matter investigated, regardless of what either the employee or I say. I want to leave it to higher management to review the incident because, from my perspective, we were both wrong. However, I believe it was extremely poor customer service from someone who identified himself as management. I would expect a manager to know how to de-escalate situations, have strong customer resolution skills, and clearly explain store policies in the moment rather than taunting, instigating, and yelling.
