Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we're still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
I was greeted by a smiling and polite young cashier in the drive thru lane.
Food was hot and delicious.

After working a night shift, I drove through Whataburger on East Old Vail Road in Tucson, Arizona, on the morning of May 28, 2026, and ordered a Whataburger Junior meal, adding ketchup to the burger. I ate it in the car on the way home. About an hour after getting home, I started having stomach cramps and then horrible diarrhea. That went on for the remainder of the day, and continued off and on for the next four days.
It turns out Whataburger had served me a severely undercooked (basically raw) hamburger, which eventually came out in my stool later on May 28. At first I thought it was blood, then realized my body was expelling raw hamburger. (I have photos but refrained from posting them here.) That night, I had to call in sick to work because I had to go to the bathroom every few minutes.
I contacted Whataburger multiple times before they finally had someone get back to me (one manager even hung up when I tried to explain what happened). And when they finally had someone contact me, it wasn’t the owner or someone from Whataburger in a position of authority, but rather an outside claims company. And of course they refused to acknowledge that Whataburger had done anything wrong, To paraphrase their representative, “because I stayed in bed in pain rather than going to a doctor, I can’t prove it was them.” Whataburger obviously cares more about protecting itself than looking after the health and wellbeing of its customers. If they won’t acknowledge that they did anything wrong, they clearly won’t make the changes necessary to ensure that this never happens to anyone ever again.
In summary, avoid this particular Whataburger at all costs!! I became very ill after eating there, and without any changes to their food preparation and quality control, others may become ill as well.

Food & service is always great at this location however, the sweet tea is always terrible. Tastes like it was brewed four or more days ago in a month old liner
