  Today, Grace in the Floral Dept. of Safeway on Tanque Verde in Tucson was the epitome of customer service. Grace stopped what she was doing, helped me solve a floral purchase, and made me feel that as a customer I was important. Bravo Grace!

  I was going to go to the rec center across the street one morning but they weren't open yet so I walked over to Safeway to browse for awhile. I took a cart(because I have some trouble walking as I've gotten older)even though I wasn't certain I was even going to I purchase anything. So if I had to guess I'd say I walked up and down each aisle and didn't find anything that I couldn't live without so as got close to time for the rec to open I exited the store with my cart and put it away and I stood there looking across the parking lot when I turned and noticed the manager standing along side of me neither of us said a word to each other. He turned and walked back in the store and I walked down the sidewalk to the outdoor seating area for the Café that was there. I grabbed a chair and sat down. Soon here comes the store manager with a couple of his "crew" and he says to me... " I'll make this easy for you. Give me back the stuff you stole and I won't call the cops." Now first of all I didn't steal anything from that store. I jumped to my feet and began emptying my pockets and handed them my bag I had with me and told them you go thru my stuff and show me what I stole. One of his crew said that wouldn't be necessary. I sid I insist you go thru my thing and find what you say I stole or I will call the cops and we'll let them sort this out since I'm being wrongly accused. Needless to say they found nothing because I didn't steal anything. I told the manager that he just lost a very good customer because I loved Safeway and I let him know that I was going to tell everyone I knew what happened and not to shop there anymore.

  I’ve noticed that the experience at self-checkout can sometimes feel a bit impersonal. A simple smile, eye contact, or a quick ‘hello’ would go a long way in making the shopping experience more welcoming. Those small touches really make a difference in the overall vibe.

  Do to mobility issues,I do pick up, rather than in-store ahopping. I get upset when I get home with cans so damaged I won't use them, as well as produce, namely potatoes with all the rotten spots on them. I prefer not to have other people waste my money for me. Perhaps better training for Safeway employees.
