My dad and I stopped in for lunch today. Our plan was to dine in while also ordering food to take home for the rest of our family. My dad had never been before, so we were looking forward to the experience.
When we walked in, the restaurant already felt a bit off. There were only about three customers dining inside, and the atmosphere wasn’t very welcoming.
When my dad ordered a Double Classic Smashburger, the employee asked if he wanted to add fries and a drink. He replied, “Yeah, I’d like a combo.” Instead of simply explaining the menu, the employee responded in a condescending tone, saying Smashburger doesn’t offer combos because “a combo would imply a discount.” She explained that the burger, fries, and drink would all be purchased separately and would actually cost more. It was a very strange and unnecessarily dismissive response to someone simply ordering lunch.
We were then asked whether our order was for dine-in or takeout. I explained that we were ordering takeout because we were bringing food home to our family. When I ordered a kids’ hamburger, I was told I couldn’t purchase it because we didn’t have a child under 12 physically present. My dad politely asked why we couldn’t buy a kids’ meal if we were taking food home for our children. The employee replied, in a very snarky tone, “Well, all you had to do was say that.”
At that point, my dad asked to speak with the manager because the interaction had become unnecessarily rude. The employee rolled her eyes and said she was the manager and was “just following the rules.”
We chose to leave without ordering anything. It wasn’t the policy itself that bothered us, it was the dismissive attitude, lack of professionalism, and overall poor customer service. A little kindness and willingness to explain policies respectfully would have made all the difference. Instead, what should have been a simple lunch turned into an experience that ensured we won’t be returning.

Came in this morning and from the jump it did not feel welcoming. The food was amazing, the cashier service could be more friendly. It felt like she had better things to do than be at work.
