I was trying to purchase a sandwich that was advertised for $5 with a digital coupon. I entered the phone number that's linked to my Safeway loyalty account, but the discount didn't apply. When I asked for help, the first employee told me he was new and couldn't assist me. He directed me to a manager at the customer service desk. The manager tried to help but immediately asked to see my Safeway app. I explained that I didn't have the app in my work phone. I was working and did not have my personal phone w me. I had already entered my phone number associated with my loyalty account. He told me there was nothing he could do unless I had the app with me and that I would have to pay the regular price. There was no effort to verify my account another way or honor the advertised price, even though I was a loyalty member and had entered my phone number. The pettiness and lack of customer service and lack of willingness to help was extremely disappointing. After being a loyal Safeway customer for so many years, I expected much better. This experience has made me decide that I WILL NOT be shopping at Safeway. There are definitely other options!
