  I had a terrible experience with Safeway Store #236 located at 10926 W Bell Rd, Sun City, AZ 85351. On 5/14/26, I placed an order for 20 packs of Fiora green bag paper towels (6-pack), which were advertised on sale for $1.97 each with no stated limit. I selected “no substitutes.” The store did not begin shopping the order until 5/15/26, when Pickup & Go supervisor Tina called me at 5:56 AM claiming they were out of stock. She offered substitutes but said the sale price would only be honored for 4 items. After going back and forth, she escalated the issue to grocery manager Chris, who eventually agreed to honor the sale price for all 20 items “this one time.” While I was already on my way to the store, I contacted customer service to explain how frustrating the situation had been. Customer service offered me a $20 courtesy credit for the inconvenience. Then, without my permission, the store canceled my order entirely. To make matters worse, they only refunded me $20.94 even though I paid $41.88 total. The store incorrectly claimed that I had already been refunded the other $20, when in reality it was only a courtesy credit attached to my account, not an actual refund. I had to contact customer service again just to receive the remainder of my money back for products I never received. I then went into the store to speak with management directly about why my order had been canceled. When Tina saw that we were there asking for a manager, she walked away instead of addressing the situation. An associate had to search for Chris, and when he finally came over, he seemed completely clueless and uninterested in resolving the issue. Instead of honoring the agreement he had already made, he basically responded with “What do you want me to do?” and then tried to backtrack by saying he would now only honor 4 items at the sale price. He also falsely claimed there were only 16 substitute items in stock, which was completely untrue. There were at least 36 visible in one section near the freezers by the gourmet dips/salsas and another 12 in the aisles. It honestly felt like management simply did not want to honor the sale from the beginning and hoped canceling the order would make the issue go away. This entire experience was unprofessional, disorganized, and poorly handled from start to finish. Store management did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue, despite the mistakes being entirely on the store’s end.
