Disappointing Experience at Taj Mahal Restaurant We came here to celebrate our dad’s 65th birthday. We ordered aloo saag for our parents, who have been vegetarian their entire lives. Unfortunately, while eating, my dad realized that there was chicken in the dish. When we brought this serious mistake to the owner’s attention, we expected a simple apology and an effort to make things right. Instead, the owner was extremely arrogant and became confrontational, even questioning whether we were going to pay for the meal. We had every intention of paying and were never trying to avoid the bill. What was even more disappointing was the way the owner, and another person who appeared to be his son, approached my husband and brother-in-law and turned the situation into an argument rather than taking responsibility for what had happened. Mistakes can happen in a restaurant, but how you handle those mistakes says everything about your business. A good owner should be able to acknowledge a serious mistake, apologize sincerely, and focus on making things right—not become defensive or confrontational with the customer. Unfortunately, what should have been a special celebration for our dad’s 65th birthday ended with a very upsetting experience. We left far more disappointed by the owner’s attitude and lack of accountability than by the mistake itself. Not even deserving of 1 star…

We dined here tonight and it was the worst experience we’ve ever had.. we came here to celebrate my dad’s 65th birthday and while eating he realized his vegetarian potato dish had chicken in it.. understandably my parents were upset, they have not ever eaten meat EVER! Never ever in their entire lives. When we talked to the owner about it, instead of being apologetic he was defensive and literally said “we’re human we make mistakes, are you ganna pay the bill?” Like what?! Things escalated quickly from there and he was one of the most arrogant owners we’ve met, mind you we’re Indian and we’ve been to hundreds of Indian restaurants.. we always appreciate a good meal but the food here was beyond mid so for him to be so arrogant about it is CRAZY. Literally wouldn’t recommend if they were the last restaurant on earth.

We came to Taj Mahal to celebrate my dad’s 65th birthday and unfortunately left after an absolutely unacceptable experience. The food itself was disappointing, but we initially chose not to complain. The situation changed when we discovered chicken in an aloo saag dish that was ordered as vegan. Both of my parents are strict vegetarians, so this was a serious issue for our family. Mistakes can happen. Had the response simply been an apology and an effort to make things right, we would have understood. Instead, the owner, Gil, became argumentative and berated us, even asking us to explain what “vegan” means and repeatedly telling us that they are human and make mistakes. Of course people make mistakes. The issue was not only the mistake — it was how we were treated after bringing such a serious mistake to their attention. Rather than taking responsibility, Gil repeatedly told us that he had been in business for 34 years and then demanded to know, “Are you going to pay or not?” The confrontation continued to escalate, and we ultimately left with Gil and another individual cursing at us and attempting to confront us physically. This was supposed to be a celebration for my dad’s 65th birthday. Instead, our family walked out shocked by how the situation was handled. Serving chicken to customers who specifically ordered a vegan dish is unacceptable. But responding to those customers with arrogance, hostility, profanity, and confrontation instead of a sincere apology made the situation significantly worse. I have video of the interaction and intend to share it so people can see the way paying customers were treated and make their own judgment. After 34 years in business, customers should be able to expect two basic things: that a dish represented as vegan does not contain meat, and that when a serious mistake happens, management handles it professionally. Unfortunately, we experienced neither. Photos of the most disrespectful and angry business owner Gil are attached.

I am beyond furious. This was supposed to be a special celebration for my father-in-law's 65th birthday; a milestone we wanted to make memorable for him. Instead, this restaurant served him and my mother-in-law chicken, despite them being vegetarian their entire lives out of deep personal and religious conviction. That's not a small mistake — that's a violation of something they've held sacred for 65+ years. To make things so much worse, when we calmly brought this to the owner's attention, he didn't apologize — he argued with us. On my father-in-law's birthday. Instead of taking responsibility, he made us feel like we were the problem for pointing out that they'd been served meat. This experience completely ruined what should have been a joyful, memorable night for our family. I am heartbroken and disgusted that a milestone celebration turned into an argument over something as basic as respecting a lifelong dietary commitment. No apology, no accountability, no compassion — just excuses and attitude from the owner himself. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially not to vegetarians or anyone celebrating something meaningful.

This is a legit Indian spot. I’ve eaten Indian food all over the world, so I’m pretty picky when it comes to what I consider good Indian food, and Taj Mahal definitely delivered. We were seated by rhe manager - Freddy and he gave us a good history on the place. 10 years in the game is nothing to sneeze at. I’d give the food a 9.5/10 when it comes to authenticity, taste, freshness, and presentation. Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Nothing tasted rushed or watered down. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Lamb, and both were made close to perfection. The chicken tikka had a rich, creamy sauce with the right amount of spice and flavor, and the butter lamb was probably my best choice. The lamb was tender, seasoned well, and the sauce was on point. Definitely the kind of food where you keep going back in with the naan even when you know you’re already full 😂. The naan was a 9/10. I like mine a little softer and more pillowy, but that’s really just personal preference. It still had a great texture and flavor and went perfectly with both dishes. Service was impeccable. Freddy and the crew were very friendly and attentive, and the timing was on point. We weren’t sitting around waiting forever between ordering, getting drinks, or getting our food. They kept everything moving without making us feel rushed. The ambience is nice too. Comfortable, clean, and a good vibe whether you’re coming for a casual dinner or bringing somebody who really appreciates good Indian food. It says its a lounge but I guess they do that at night or weekends We did have some drinks. The old fashioned was made perfectly. Thats hard to get right in my opinion Overall, Taj Mahal is definitely one of the better Indian spots I’ve tried in the area. Authentic food, great service, nice atmosphere, and everything tasted fresh. I don’t hand out a 5 star but this is 9.5/10 on food easily. So they get my 5 Definitely coming back when in AZ
