The Barro’s Pizza recipe comes from Grandma Angelina Barro who came from Italy in the 1930’s, providing a pizza unlike any other. People may disagree on whether it's the thick crust with its light, flakey texture, which almost melts in your mouth, or the wonderful spiced sauce that is the secret of this great tasting pizza. Barro’s Pizza also provides wings, salads, sandwiches, pastas, gluten-free pizza options, dessert, beer and wine.

I’ve been going to Barro’s Pizza for a long time, and unfortunately my latest experience was enough to make me decide I won’t be returning. I like my traditional wings extra crispy. Over the years, I’ve had to return or exchange them multiple times because they weren’t cooked long enough. Eventually, we figured out that frying them for 17 minutes makes them perfect, and they’ve been doing a good job with that. On this visit, I ordered a 12-piece traditional wing and a pizza. I specifically requested the pizza be made as thin as possible. Before I left, I checked the wings to make sure they were cooked correctly, and they appeared to be. When I got home, I realized the wings had almost no sauce on them. You could still clearly see the silver foil underneath because there was so little sauce. The pizza also wasn’t made extra thin as requested. I called the manager, Chris to explain the situation. Rather than acknowledging the mistakes, he became argumentative and focused on the fact that I had looked at the wings before leaving. He never addressed the pizza being made incorrectly. He told me I could bring everything back for a refund or remake that same day. I explained that I don’t live nearby—I was only in the area visiting my mother. Driving another 40 minutes round trip over mistakes that weren’t my fault wasn’t reasonable. I asked if I could return the next day instead. He first mentioned a partial credit, then changed his answer and said there was no way to process anything the next day because it couldn’t be put back into the system. I later called back to get the number for corporate, and he even mentioned that they had watched the tape of me looking at the wings, which felt unnecessary and only added to the frustration. I understand businesses have policies, but I also believe good customer service means using a little common sense. This wasn’t a case of simply changing my mind. The wings had almost no sauce, and the pizza wasn’t made as ordered. Given my long history as a customer and the inconvenience of making another trip, I expected a little flexibility. In the end, my mother and I ate about half the pizza and threw the rest away. I ate the wings because I was hungry, not because I enjoyed them. Barro’s has always been hit or miss for me, but this experience—and especially how the situation was handled—was the final straw. I most definitely will not be returning.
