I don’t think Subway gets enough credit for how consistently solid it is. Every time I walk in, I know exactly what I’m going to get—and that reliability honestly matters more than people realize. The whole “build your own sandwich” setup is still one of the best fast food concepts out there. You’re not just ordering something off a board and hoping it turns out good—you’re actively making choices the entire time, from the bread to the protein to the toppings and sauces. It makes the experience feel way more personal.
The bread is always fresh, and you can actually smell it when you walk in, which immediately sets the tone. There’s something underrated about being able to pick exactly what kind of bread you want—Italian, wheat, herbs and cheese—and knowing it’ll be soft but still hold everything together. The ingredient selection is also way better than most fast food places. The vegetables actually look fresh and colorful, not sad and wilted. You can load up your sandwich with lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, onions, peppers, pickles—whatever you want—and it never feels like you’re being limited.
One thing I really appreciate is how customizable everything is. Whether you want something super simple or completely stacked, they’ll make it exactly how you ask without giving you attitude. The workers are usually pretty chill too, and even when it’s busy, they move quickly and keep the line going. It’s one of those places where you don’t feel rushed, but you’re also not waiting forever.
The variety on the menu is another big plus. You can go classic with something like a turkey or Italian BMT, or switch it up with different proteins and combinations depending on your mood. And if you’re trying to eat a little healthier, it’s one of the few fast food spots where you can genuinely do that without feeling like you’re sacrificing taste. You can keep it light or go all-in—it’s completely up to you.
Price-wise, it’s pretty reasonable for what you get. You’re getting a fully customized sandwich, usually packed with ingredients, and it still ends up being cheaper than a lot of other fast food meals. Plus, it actually fills you up, which isn’t always the case with other places.
Overall, Subway is just one of those reliable go-to spots that never really disappoints. It’s not trying to be overly fancy or trendy—it just focuses on doing one thing well: making good, customizable sandwiches. And honestly, sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
I came here with my mother and we ordered ahead online. When we came inside the restaurant to pick up our food, there was one staff member working at the sandwich station. We were the only customers there. She did not say hello or acknowledge us for a long while. My mother and I stood there waiting and I eventually asked to use the restroom. The worker did then tell me the code to the door.
My mother stood there and tried to speak a couple of times before she was acknowledged. The worker was making sandwiches, which my mom realized were ours, and finally acknowledged her several minutes later when she was done making them. She asked if we were there for pickup. We said “yes, for [my name].” She handed them to us and did say “have a nice day.” It was still odd that there was no “welcome in,” or “how can I help you.” The environment and attitude was very uninviting.
The ingredients along the sandwich station were browning and wilting- namely the lettuce and spinach. There was another worker there who popped his head in and seemed to be changing the wilting ingredients after our sandwiches had been made with them, but also didn’t speak to us or offer to serve us while we stood there waiting.
My main concern wasn’t even the poor customer service. My main concern was the state of the bathroom. When I got in there I felt sick at the sight of it. There was a thick black and brown ring along the toilet bowl. The last person hasn’t flushed, but that might have been a customer. There was fecal matter smeared on the wall. The sink looked slimy and gross too. It looked like the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned in weeks.
A table where my mom sat while she waited had crumbs all over it too.
They had “Sorry, no ice” signs in a few places. We didn’t get drinks, but I imagine warm drinks in Arizona is not ideal. There was a promo about free cookies by the register, but the cookie case was empty.
I will say the food was delicious! My mom and I both enjoyed our sandwiches. That being said, we will not be revisiting this specific location of Subway again and I’d advise you to choose an alternate location if you’re craving Subway.
