Such a vibe! Came here for a girls’ night and seriously felt like we were on vacation! The complimentary fish broth was freaking TO DIE FOR …even if it sounds a little weird haha. 😂 I ordered the salmon and guacamole, and everything was amazing! Tomas was SO fun and took the time to explain the menu to us in detail. We basically ordered everything he suggested and were super pleased with all of it! The live music was such a nice touch too and made the whole atmosphere even better. Definitely need to venture out of Old Town Scottsdale more often… and I literally live there! 😂 10/10 girls night spot!
Look, I really don't like to write negative reviews, but if I don't, then my positive reviews have no meaning.
The people were friendly and the menu was interesting, but there were just so many things just off about this place. I ended up forcing my food down because even though it didn't taste that great, I hadn't eaten much all day and it wasn't cheap.
We had a reservation for two. When we arrived, the restaurant was about half full. The hostess initially sat us at the one two-top that was tucked in a corner and right on top of another couple even though there were plenty of other options. There was an area with 3 pairs of 2-tops with lots of breathing room. Perhaps, she was balancing sections or saving the other 2-tops to be turned into 4-tops, but this was silly. It was already 7:30pm on a weeknight in Gilbert. My wife asked for a different table so she moved us to only other 2-top that was right next to another couple. Whatever.
We waited a while for a server, but that was fine because the menu was interesting. The hostess came with water but didn't take a drink order. It's not the end of the world, but perhaps she doesn't know cocktails. Again, whatever.
I ordered the octopus risotto which really sounded good and it was even marked as a chef's favorite. My wife got the president tacos and at the strong suggestion of our server, also a chef's favorite. We also ordered some steak fries and a house salad.
The house salad was weird. The greens were dressed with oil even though we were asked to choose a dressing. We chose blue cheese so it didn't really work with the oil. The salad had tortilla chip strips on top because of that whole Mexican theme, but they were not light and crispy, they were kind of chewy. They almost seemed more like won ton crisps or something and there were too many of them. The greens and the tomatoes were very nice, but the whole thing just didn't make sense. If they had lost the tortilla strips and the oil on the greens, it would have been a lovely salad.
My wife's tacos were kind of promising, but the shrimp inside was too salty. My wife salts the hell out of stuff when she cooks and even she was struggling to put it down. I think if not for the salt situation, these would have been a winner. In reality, my wife only ate one of her tacos and I ate half of the other.
My octopus risotto was borderline inedible. Both the octopus and the risotto were so salty I was struggling to put it down. If I hadn't dropped $39 on it, I would have just ordered something else. Honestly, I shouldn't have accepted it. Also, the menu said it came with micro greens, but it didn't. Instead, it came with this strange piece of grilled, but kind of soggy bread that reminded me of the classic scene in the movie "Big Night" where the lady expects a side of pasta to come with her risotto. (If you don't know this scene, please find it!) I barely touched the risotto, but I couldn't waste the octopus. There were a couple of bites that didn't seem to have so much salt and those gave me a hint of what might have been. Still, they should have called it "Octopus With Risotto" because the octopus was just plopped on the top of the risotto, probably because they use the risotto in their lobster risotto offering.
The steak fries were actually quite good, but they tasted like something you'd get at a good diner, not a fine seafood restaurant. I'm glad my wife ordered them, though, because I ended up using them as a chaser for the salty seafood.
Our server was lovely, but the table was honestly too small to enjoy a dinner at this price point. A deuce at Waffle House is probably bigger. Also, my glass had a chip in it. Again, that happens at a diner, not a place like this.
I really wanted to like this place, but so many little things just weren't right. It just seemed like a corporate restaurant run by MBAs not food people.
I think a four star review is appropriate given the price point. Ordered pickup online. The restaurant is located in a busy shopping center with a near full parking lot on a wednesday evening. I was greeted promptly upon entering and the hostess packed up my order without delay. I had the BLU ceviche which was good. Big chunks of nicely cooked fish and seafood with fresh fruit and veggies. It did need salt. I also had the BLU Alfredo with shrimp which was a decent alfredo with five good sized shrimp. I also had a side salad and for only $6 was pleasently surprised by its size and toppings variety but it came completely without any dressing. Everything was "plated" very pretty even for a togo order.

My wife and I were looking for a new place to eat. We love seafood so when in Gilbert on business, we decided to give this restaurant a try. We were very excited to discover a new restaurant, and as we approached, we liked what we saw.
The restaurant is beautiful and engaging, it takes what little footprint it has and makes the most of it, and the roaming accordion player, playing romantic songs we all know, was a nice touch.
The cocktail, a little on the slim side, was delicious. My wife had a nice mocktail which she enjoyed. The appetizers were interesting; the lightly fried octopus and shrimp were quite good, its accompanying sauce also tasty, and the guacamole was particularly good and chips tasted fresh.
However, it was when our main meals arrived that I became a little less “disenchanted“ than I had anticipated.
I was excited to try the cod; however, it was chewier than necessary as it was overcooked. I had looked forward to the pesto with pasta; however, the pasta was watery and flat, and the pesto was only OK, plus the pistachios were just a bit soggy. The entire side dish needed a smattering of salt and or seasoning to enhance the flavors. Finally the brussels sprouts, currently out of season and now I know why, were chewy and dry. The bacon added some flavor, however, after two or three bites I could not finish it.
Overall, I had anticipated much more than we received, and while the service was good and our waitress exceptional, the food was such I’m afraid to say we won’t likely be returning.
I choose my words carefully, I don’t try to be rude, but I feel it important to share reviews that reflect my honest, take, and appreciation, or in this case disappointment.
I will say the cocktails and the ambience are worth the time.

Blu’s atmosphere is sophisticated yet inviting. We were seated right away and met by our server Sabree. For starters, the small warm cup of seafood consomé was divine, and the red, slightly spicy sauce served with our oysters appetizer was superb. Next we both enjoyed house salads. The potato and steak bites entree was as I remembered…tasteful and satisfying. My husband enjoyed a ribeye steak served with creamy garlicky mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts with bacon bits. We finished our delicious meal with a tres leches cheesecake AND the house flan…both a huge hit. One suggestion: serve the flan with that traditional divine caramel sauce we fondly grew up enjoying. Shoutout to Sabree for her wine suggestions and overall wonderful service. And a thank you to Grace who remembered us and greeted us warmly as we were leaving. Looking forward to another wonderful visit!
