What a treat!
I believe our server was Jacki, and I can't think of a single piece of feedback for her. Intimate knowledge of the menu, perfect timing & tempo, neither overbearing nor absent. Highly attentive to her clients; she brought us fresh plates, ginger, napkins between courses and our water/cocktails were never once neglected.
Atmosphere was beautiful. A touch loud for my taste, but I would just call it lively. Not to mention, you don't really want to eat at a sushi house that's a ghost town. As an electrical subcontractor, I'd like to say the lighting was stunning. Very cool spot, and killer location, we biked here.
Now what really matters, the food, omg.
Sunomono (picture was after we'd started eating it, it was more beautiful, lol)
Kaisen Fried Rice - Blue Crab
Beef Bao Buns
Crispy Rice
Tsutsumi Carpaccio
Sake Nigiri (X5)
Truffle Sake
Forest Dragon Roll
Sunomono was an awesome way to start the meal; crisp, refreshing, both subtle & flavorful.
Fried Rice was amazing. The crab really shined and I embarrassingly ate almost the entire thing myself.
Beef Bao, my wife is not a beef person and these were devoured. Savory, sweet, tender, soft buns (if I'm just looking to be critical they could have been a touch chewier, but this is a reach) and a little crunch.
Crispy Rice, server sent this out on the house and said we had to try it. I have to agree with her recommendation. Haven't had anything like it.
Tsutsumi Carpaccio was divine. Every molecule was appreciated. Almost too beautiful to eat, also a great way to try a couple of the different fish options with a single dish.
SAKE NIGIRI: Showstopper. Our previous favorite place is in SLC, and my wife and I have been known to alter out travel plans to make sure we can stop there. Now, my bank account has a new problem because this is a 30 minute bike ride from home. I'm half-Japanese and grew up in Oregon eating fresh salmon all year. This could not be better. If you've ever seen Seinfeld S5E1, my wife loved this as much as the risotto in that episode.
Truffle Sake. Outrageous. Unique. Never had anything like it, gun to my head and I couldn't pick between this and the regular sake nigiri. Both deserve a spot in heaven.
Forest Dragon Roll as should be expected was excellent.
Oh, I can't find the names online, but the first cocktail we had was Thai-tea based and kind of boring. Delicious, turns out Thai tea and vodka is dope, but kind of one-note. Didn't pick up on elderberry or flower or whatever else was in there. Second cocktail was gin-based, floral, and exceptional.
We can't wait to eat our way through this entire menu. No idea why this place only has 4.5 stars.
