  I picked up three dozen assorted bagels for an important out of town event. When I looked in the boxes, the plain bagels looked unbaked. They were the color of raw dough and mushy. I called the Bailey Cove location and asked for the manager. I never received a call back. Bruegger's left me in lurch. They lost a customer who had been going there for years and who knew what the bagels were supposed to look like.

  I order online every Saturday for pick up at the Cecil Ashburn location. When I arrive, Loida Always greets me cheerfully. My food is always hot and fresh and my drink is always delicious. I consider this my cheat day and it satisfies everything I feel I’m missing.

  While visiting our grandchildren in Owens Cross Roads, we spotted Bruegger’s Bagels in Jones Valley, near Cecile Ashburn Drive and Bailey Cove Road. It was Sunday morning, and the five of us had been talking about our upcoming bagel adventure for two days. You would have thought we were planning a trip to Disney World rather than ordering breakfast. None of us are bagel experts. In fact, my only experience with a bagel restaurant was more than a decade ago in Georgia. So when we walked in and saw all those choices, we wisely stood back from the counter for a moment and held what amounted to a family strategy meeting. I am the kind of customer who gets excited about food and likes to show appreciation to the people preparing it. Put me in front of a display of good-looking bagels and my eyes get wide while my ability to make a decision rapidly disappears. I wanted nearly everything I saw. My wife and I helped the grandchildren decide what they wanted, and we also ordered an extra half-dozen flavored bagels for the three kids to enjoy later. Ordering was a little difficult. The cashier spoke very softly and indistinctly, so we listened carefully and did our best to understand his questions and communicate our choices. We also requested a particular drink for our granddaughter twice, but she received something different. Thankfully, she handled the disappointment better than many adults would have.
