I really hate leaving negative reviews, especially because there is one employee at this location who has been absolutely phenomenal every time I've dealt with him. Unfortunately, after three nearly identical experiences over roughly the last two months, I feel like the ongoing management and staffing issues at this store need to be addressed.
I own a business only 1.8 miles from this location, and one of the reasons we order Jimmy John's is because when we're slammed at work and can't leave, it's supposed to be a quick and convenient option. On three separate occasions now, later in the afternoon or evening, our delivery has taken an hour or more.
The first time was a Saturday afternoon. When I called, the employee who answered had apparently just come in and had been left with no bread ready to fulfill the orders. He was actually a driver who was trying to get everything caught up. He was incredibly apologetic, figured out a way to get our order made, delivered it himself, and even brought us a sweet as an apology for the wait.
The second time, one of my employees ordered food late in the afternoon during the week. After waiting more than an hour, we called to check on it. Once again, the same employee was there, essentially trying to run the store by himself, and once again there was no bread ready to make the orders.
Then a few weeks ago, on a Friday evening, it happened for the third time. After waiting close to an hour, I called. The same employee apologized and told me he would get our food taken care of and delivered. Once again, the store was out of bread.
When our food finally arrived, the delivery driver had accidentally grabbed the wrong bag, so I got in my car and drove the 1.8 miles to the store myself.
When I arrived, the door was locked. There were other customers standing outside waiting, and I could see that there was ONE employee inside. He was pacing back and forth on the phone and was clearly extremely upset. When he finally came to the door, this poor man had tears in his eyes and genuinely looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.
He explained that he had essentially been left trying to hold the store together by himself because there weren't enough hours available to schedule additional help.
At that point, I felt so bad for the situation he had been put in that I wasn't about to ask him to remake our order on top of everything else. I took the food we had been given back to work, and we simply made do with it.
That is ultimately why I'm leaving this review.
Three consecutive orders taking an hour or more from a restaurant less than two miles away is unacceptable, especially for a company whose brand has historically been built around fast service. Three separate occasions where the store didn't even have bread ready to fulfill orders suggests a much larger operational problem.
But what bothered me more than any late or incorrect order was seeing an employee so overwhelmed that he was nearly in tears while trying to operate a restaurant essentially by himself.
I want to be VERY clear that I do not want this review to negatively affect this employee. Quite the opposite. Every interaction I've had with him has been exceptional. He has been kind, apologetic, professional, and has repeatedly gone above and beyond trying to make things right under circumstances that appear to be completely outside of his control.
Something needs to give at this location. One good employee cannot take orders, make food, prepare bread, manage customers, solve problems, coordinate deliveries, and keep an entire restaurant operating by himself.
Once is a bad day. Twice is concerning. Three times in a row is a pattern.
This location needs adequate staffing and management support, both for its customers and for the employees being asked to carry an unreasonable load. That employee deserves recognition for how hard he has worked to take care of customers despite being put in what appears to be an impossible situation.
