The pros
Interior design is quite pleasant. It has a bright yet cozy feel, with lots of light wood and white. The aesthetic is very pleasing. The staff were friendly, polite, and tried to be as helpful as possible. The ingredients were fresh. For example, they opened a new avocado in front of me for my meal.
The menu has several "Curated" recommended combos or a build your own, (much like Chipotle).
The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The grilled veggies were like how I might have cooked some for myself at home with a nice variety and texture. The tomatoes and onions were small grape tomatoes that were really good. The hummus was great. Between the 4 of us we tried the steak, braised lamb (lots of fat that I pulled off of it) and the spicy lamb meatballs. Each one was delicious, each with its own unique flavor and texture. The hummus was great. Everything combined nicely. The portions were light, which I think people will appreciate if they are trying to eat healthy.
They also seem environmentally conscientious as the bowls and such were made of biodegradable material and less plastic than normal was used, for example, the forks were not individually wrapped.
The cons
The biggest con of all was that they only had one cash register. At all. Not like, only one was open, or only one person was on the cash register. The restaurant was only equipped with 1 cash register. And when I was paying, the payment system kept rebooting! And they acted like that was normal that it happened from time to time. So instead of the other people in the long line behind me being able to go to the next register, they just all had to wait, while the payment system rebooted 3 times!
That is a big oversight for the chain owners. They really need to have at least two registers. So don't go there if you are in any sort of hurry.
The menu should have been a pretty simple one but it wasn't. For the build your own it has how to build your own with labels like "Base" but then to find what the options are for the base, that is not on the menu, that is printed small on the glass where the actual "base" is in the line. This kind of sets it up where you need to choose what you want while you are in line. Fortunately, when we were there it was pretty empty so we sat on the long bench that ran along the cash register line and peered past customers at the various options for "Base" "Main (I think that is what they called the meat/falafel/grilled veggies)
When I was getting my toppings I said perhaps avocado, then I was told it cost extra. I said "Oh, Ok, no nevermind. I won't get that." (Mainly because we do avo a lot at home anyway, and I didn't want the risk of a bad avo spoiling the meal, as I was initially thinking I might get it on the side) Then for some reason the employee went and got out a fresh avo and sliced it open and before I knew what was happening, it was all over my meal. Well, I wasn't very well going to say, "I said I don't want any avocado!" And have her scrape it off my bowl and back into the avocado peel, so I just accepted it. It was mostly good, except for a couple little bruises I was able to scoop out, and at least it was very fresh.
Forks not being individually wrapped is good for the environment, however, most places where they do that they have the part that goes in the mouth facing up or they have it come out if a dispenser so that it is clean. In this case, the forks were in a little cup/bowl all facing down in there. It was not as dirty as it could have been, but there were definitely some crumbs down in there. So it didn't feel entirely sanitary using their plastic cutlery, which felt a bit odd.
Outdoor seating was cute but there were only 4 tables quite close together.
Would I recommend it? The food itself is good, and as long as you are there at the right time, I'm sure it's fine. However, I don't think we will be going back again. There are enough other options.
When I arrived to get a bowl, I was absolutely famished after surviving the day on nothing but a yogurt and determination. I couldn’t decide what I wanted, so I asked Taylor, the employee behind the counter, to make her personal favorite bowl and surprise me. I assured her I liked all the ingredients, so she happily took over.
When she got to the meats, she even offered me a sample of the spicy chicken first to make sure I liked it. I definitely did. She also paired the bowl with three separate sauces she thought would go well with it.
And let me tell you… that bowl was AMAZING. The kind of meal where you take one bite and immediately know you’ll be thinking about it again later. Honestly, I may have to go back and ask for Taylor’s favorite bowl every single time because it was incredible.
I didn’t stay long, but the restaurant appeared clean, open, and welcoming as well.
