  I was extremely disappointed with how this restaurant handled a serious food allergy concern. After receiving my food, I realized my bowl had fried jalapeños on it. I have a shellfish allergy, so I asked whether they also fry shrimp in the same fryer. I was told they had not fried shrimp that day, but they had the day before. What was most concerning was being told that the grease “should be hot enough to kill it.” They obviously do not take food allergies or cross-contamination very seriously if this is how they respond to a customer raising an allergy concern. Food allergies are caused by proteins, not bacteria. Heat does not simply “kill” an allergen the way it can kill bacteria. Using the same fryer for shrimp and other foods creates a potential cross-contact risk. They then offered to take my bowl back and simply scrape the fried jalapeños off. When I explained that I was not comfortable eating it because of the potential cross-contamination, they refused to remake my bowl unless I paid for an entirely new one. I understand restaurants cannot always guarantee an allergen-free environment, but I absolutely expect a restaurant to take food allergies seriously and understand that simply scraping something off a meal does not address cross-contamination. I left without being able to safely eat the meal I had already paid for. Extremely disappointing and concerning experience, especially for anyone with food allergies.

  We ordered the fried shrimp with sweet tater fries and the shrimp poke bowl. The fries were perfect and the shrimp actually were firm and had great flavor. The poke bowl was creamy with a slight bite and a citrus background. We both cleaned our plates.
