  This is always our go-to stop before heading out on a charter. They always seem to have whatever we need, making it easy to grab last-minute supplies. Prices are a little higher than elsewhere, but that's to be expected given the location and convenience. Friendly service and a reliable place to stock up before a day on the water.

  The store is part of the Albertsons brands, and is a standard grocery store. They have very good quality fruit and vegetables, as well as a good milk selection, but you don’t see many clearance items in the store. Prices in the store are higher than other Safeway stores in Alaska. It has tourist pricing. It quit being on par with price with other Safeway’s around the state on product cost about 10 years ago, so expect to pay more than average. Someone decided it was a tourist area and that there aren’t any locals living there, so they have tourist pricing that is higher year-round. All the shelves are generally well stocked, and there isn’t much clutter in the store. Meat and fish is generally good quality, but they do have a limited selection compared to other safe ways around the state. There are limited clearance deals, but not as much as other Safeway stores. Parking is good, and the pavement is in good condition. There is decent access for handicap drivers. There is also a pick up and go spot in the front of the store that is easier to access. This is one of two grocery stores in town, so there are limited options, so this is a main point & place of activity. Overall, I’m pleased with this place. I just wish they’d get rid of the tourist pricing, as a lot of people live here year-round.

  This review is specifically for their pickup service that they heavily advertise and clearly cannot keep up with. The last two times I attempted to do a pickup service, NO ONE was available to shop the order. This last time was the last straw. Especially when Safeway kept my money in limbo - they charged my card and kept it pending for over a week. I had to file a claim with my bank to get my money back. Even after calling the 800 number for Safeway, my money wasn’t being credited back. The app no longer even shows the order. The person working the customer service desk wasn’t even allowed to cancel it because the system wasn’t allowing him to. Over it. Will never use Safeway pickup again. And I honestly don’t want to give my money to that company ever again. Buyer beware.
