My wife and me went to On the Border for lunch. It was very slow, our waitress had two tables, including ours, but she was never around. She came around when I was completely out of coke for awhile. She asked if i wanted a refill, I said yes and I asked for more salsa. She brought our meals but no salsa, and she never did. After we finished we waited for her to come by. When she did I asked for the check, fifteen minutes later she brought it. I wasn't happy at this point, we still were christmas shopping. I was also going to buy a OTB gift card for my daughter, but after my experience I chose not too. I will not go back there again because of the poor customer service we received.

Well, I wanted to go down memory lane so I choose to dine here, alone, tonight. Mistake? Some would say, yes. Me, nah, as I'm likely never to return. Honestly, I see a soon to be end to this Tyler OTB era. I feel they'll be gone within 6 months. If I'm wrong, good for them, maybe they can survive in Tyler. I don't believe so.
It's a Saturday night, 7:45pm...on the corner of Broadway and the Loop. It should be packed, or at least full. There were 5 cars out front. That should have been a sign, but I'm generally optimistic. I sat at the bar. I'm the only patron in the bar area, period. Sad. Now there's several, I'm assuming wait staff sitting behind me (likely because there's no tables to work). They're just watching TV.
Service, eh. The kid (bartender) is super nice (Cyrus), and he managed to stay busy making the occasional drink for the few tables out in the restaurant, or cleaning to back bar. It took several minutes to get salsa refilled, something that should be done without me asking and almost immediately. I like the kid, so manager...don't blame him. He's likely not well trained. But, I liked him enough that he should definitely keep what seems to be his first job, at least until you close your doors for good.
BTW, it's now 8:30, on a Saturday night, and he's already cleared everything from the bar...the bar mats, put the cherries away, etc. Why? Because I'm the only one here? Sad.
Food, well, eh...again. Now I see why it's empty. They no longer have much of the beloved OTB food from the 90's through 2010's. They recently changed the chips, bad choice IMHO. They changed the sangria in the margaritas, it's bland. My normal order of Queso Flameado is no longer on menu. I asked, they can make it, yay! I received it, it's mostly already chewed up beef fajita meat and sour cream. I believe there was at least 23 shreds of grated cheese...ok, maybe I'm exaggerating...but there's a photo. 🤷
The price, I'm too disappointed to properly comment...or better yet, just ready to go home. Oh wait, I was just joined by a dad and his little 5 year old kid on his tablet...beside me, at the bar. Why? I might sound shallow, but I'm at the bar in an empty restaurant and I guess I'm a little over this place.
Maybe I'm picky. Sure. But I think the fact that hardly anyone is here, that speaks more than I can. Honestly, it's just really sad. I almost wish this place was just still Spaghetti's (does anyone remember that, here in this location...early to mid 90's?).
I won't return, unless I see or hear of something better in the future. There's simply a ton of better options in the area. 😢
