Lure Ball Bites — Today’s Catch: After a failed roller blade side quest, I regrouped at Portillo’s, a Gym I remembered fondly from past Chicago runs and its DFW debut. I went with the Beef & Char-Grilled Italian Sausage Sandwich, fries with Comeback Sauce, and the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shake, a full offensive lineup for an empty stomach. The beef sandwich landed like a super-effective move, though next time I’m definitely powering it up with gravy for max damage. The fries were perfectly salted, and the shake was sweet enough to feel like a rare candy reward. The Comeback sauce left me wondering its purpose. It didn’t enhance my meal experience but it didn’t hurt it. Almost like the sauce used Splash to no effect. Minor debris on the table aside, this place stays busy for a reason with strong flavor stats, solid quality, and worth the slightly higher dollar investment.

I ordered the beef n cheddar crossiant - the meat was awesome but lacked the cheddar. It had just little bit of sprinkled shredded cheese. Not what I would consider cheddar if it's in the name. I might go back to try a hot or hamburger not too soon. not impressed.

I don’t know what’s more impressive: how fast Portillo’s can give you food poisoning, or how slowly they deliver it. I ordered the Garden Dog and within hours: full-blown food poisoning. We waiting in the drive thru for 15 minutes. For a hot dog. The only thing that came out quickly was the regret. If the goal was to test the limits of patience and gastrointestinal fortitude, congrats, mission accomplished. TLDR: don’t get the garden dog, or eat here at all.

Portillo's delivers exactly what you expect from a Chicago staple. • Italian beef is flavorful and well seasoned • Hot dogs come out fast and loaded correctly • Chocolate cake shake lives up to the hype • Portions justify the price in the 10 to 20 dollar range Service moves quickly even when it’s busy. The dining area stays clean and organized. Parking is easy at this location. It loses one star for consistency during peak hours. Food quality can dip slightly when the line gets long. If you want reliable comfort food with bold flavors, this spot gets the job done. You will leave full and satisfied.

Our first time at Portillo's. The dining room is vividly decorated and looked good, and it was also clean and well kept. Ordering was easy on the kiosk. I ordered the burger and fries and shr had the fish sandwich and onion rings. I liked the taste of the burger, but it was too heavy on the mayonnaise and too little ketchup. Both the French Fries and onion rings were not served hot, but barely even warm. We ordered dine-in, but food was in a to go bag. We will probably try Portillo's again in the future, but it will be a while.
