  Born and raised in Illinois, and I recently moved to San Antonio this past June. I honestly never thought I’d be able to eat Portillo’s again unless I was back visiting Chicago, so seeing one open here in San Antonio feels unreal. I haven’t even tried the food at this location yet, but with Portillo’s, I already know what’s coming. It is one of those places that is hard to explain until you experience it for yourself. San Antonio, please understand: you are about to get something special. The hot dogs are always fresh, flavorful, and ridiculously addictive. The Italian beefs are packed with flavor, juicy, and exactly what comfort food is supposed to be. The fries, onion rings, and burgers are all great too, but the real secret is the cheese sauce. Dip everything in it. Hot dogs, big beefs, fries, onion rings, whatever you order. That cheese sauce is dangerously good. I cannot wait to see how this San Antonio location turns out, especially the interior and the staff. The Illinois locations always had such a fun, friendly, energetic atmosphere, and I’m hoping this one brings that same magic to Texas. Portillo’s is not just another restaurant opening. For people from Illinois, it feels like a piece of home. For San Antonio locals, I promise this is about to become one of your new favorite spots. I’m beyond excited for opening day.
