My wife and I scheduled a reservation, but waited 30+ minutes past the original schedule time. (Reservation 4:45pm)
When we finally sat down the waitress (alexis) took long to come to our table.
When we ordered our food my wife asked for certain extra items to accompany her food when she eats (lemons and sauce).
When the food arrived the extra items didn't arrive with the food. My wife reminded the person that expedited the food and the waitress, but the extra lemons and sauce didn't come until 20+ minutes later. Actually, the sauce never came, and the waitress gave us some lie about her taking forever because she was asking all the managers for the sauce but there was no more.
During the meal we hardly saw our waitress nor did we get asked if we needed refills.
My wife was wanting a dessert (cheese cake) but as we were finishing the meal the waitress only brought the check without asking us if we'd like dessert or anything else. So, I told my wife we could go somewhere else.
Even though we never mentioned how bad the service was to our waitress she was saying how sorry was for not attending us properly. So she definitely how bad she did, but it doesn't change the fact that it was the worst experience we've had at this restaurant!
I got a to-go order totaling about 100 dollars. The to-go servers were unhappy, you could tell. No smiles or anything. Definitely felt like it was just another day that they didn't wanna work but they ere just working there for the money. I also tipped pretty generously only to get the minimal amount of dirty rice with both orders. The food looked like someone had already eaten it and it wasnt even neatly prepared. The picture shows exactly how i got the food. Also the amount of rice included was so small that I had to cook more rice so that it was enough for both orders that I ordered. Not stopping at this this location ever again. I will drive straight to Houston and get treated amazingly. I'm so sorry to have stopped here. Never again.

We are very disappointed in this location. We made a reservation for 5:15 PM and showed up a little early just in case we could be seated earlier. We noticed a few people who did not make reservations who just got on the list were seated before us.
We finally got a seat at 5:40 PM. Why make a reservation? We ordered the raw oysters as an appetizer, we waited and waited and it never showed. Finally the manager explains to use that the person who fixes the oysters hurt his hand and had to leave and the new person needed some help so it is still going to take awhile. WOW Really?.
So it here it is around 6:15 - 20 and we are hungry. She asked us do we want another appetizer and she brought up salads. We assume that we would not be charged for the salads because of the wait, and we were.
Our food finally came out around 20 minutes later. We were full of bread, water and tea that our appetite was gone. It took us ten minutes to get a regular knife...
Our waitress was very nice, and it was not her fault. She did the best that she could do and we appreciate that.
Pappadeaux has always been special to my wife and me. We actually celebrated our engagement at the McAllen location, so it felt right to come here for Valentine’s Day after relocating to San Antonio. Unfortunately, this experience didn’t live up to what we’ve come to expect. We were quoted a wait time of 1 hour and 45 minutes after checking in at 6:22 PM, which we completely understood given the holiday. We grabbed drinks at the bar while we waited, and I want to give a huge shoutout to the bar staff, they were absolutely on point all night. However, around 7:45–8:00 PM, we noticed multiple parties being seated ahead of us. After checking in, we were told we were about 10–15 minutes out. When we followed up again later (20 minutes later), we noticed handwritten cards at the hostess stand, and only then was our name added, and suddenly we were next. That raised concerns about whether the waitlist system was being managed properly. Once seated, our server Aubry took our full order, including two appetizers (fried mozzarella and crab dip), baked potato, along with our entrées. Drinks arrived, but the appetizers and baked potato never did. After 20–25 minutes, our main dishes came out, but no appetizers, and there was no follow-up to check on missing items. Meanwhile, we saw those same appetizers being served to other tables. At that point, it felt like we had been overlooked. To their credit, the manager removed the missing items from our bill, which we appreciated. Still, for a restaurant at this price point, especially on a special occasion, we expected a smoother and more attentive experience. Overall, this visit was disappointing. In hindsight, we probably would have had a better experience just dining at the bar.
Disappointing Initial Service at Alamo Ranch / I-10 Location Despite Good Food and One Outstanding Server – We Won’t Return
We visited the Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen at the Alamo Ranch / I-10 West location in San Antonio after a very difficult day, having attended a loved one’s funeral that afternoon. Tired and dressed casually (my wife in jeans and a T-shirt, me in jeans and a polo shirt), we were promptly seated.
The hostess informed our assigned server (a tall, blonde man whose name began with B, working the back area) that we were in his section. He looked over at us, then proceeded to ignore us—avoiding eye contact and leaving us waiting for about eight minutes. The restaurant was not busy; there was only one other occupied table in the entire section.
Another server from a different section noticed our long wait, kindly introduced herself, took our drink order, brought us menus and silverware, and attempted to hand the table to our assigned server—showing him the card with his name. He refused, shaking his head and saying no.
The second server was exceptional—professional, attentive, and willing to take our table even though it was not in her section. We moved to her area to make it easier for her, and she provided outstanding service throughout. We have always been generous tippers (customarily leaving about half the bill when service is good), and she more than earned it.
Once the other server began helping us and we had moved, a party of four walked into the original server’s section. He immediately walked over with menus and silverware and took their order—promptly and without hesitation.
The food itself was good and enjoyable. That said, the initial refusal to serve us was surprising and disappointing. Appearances can be deceiving, and everyone deserves equal courtesy and service regardless of how they look or how they are dressed.
While we deeply appreciate the second server’s work ethic and kindness, the first server’s unwillingness to do his job—especially when the section was nearly empty and he quickly served the next group—left a poor impression. We will not be returning to Pappadeaux.
