Great experience and great food. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was top notch. Crab cake, fantastic. Filet, on point and cooked properly. Crab stuffed jumbo shrimp, delicious. Brussel sprouts... yep, super tasty.
If you want an intimate setting, make a reservation to dine indoors. Otherwise, the river walk can be noisy, but good people watching.
Do not go to Brenner's and expect free ice cream for the kids (I wouldn't even take my kids - they don't appreciate this type of experience yet) or a "birthday treat" for Uncle Joe's 80th... it's a classy place with employees who work hard to provide a great experience. It's a steakhouse, order anything else you may be disappointed (jumbo stuffed shrimp were great).
Keep up the great work, Brenner's SAT!
Wonderful dining experience, well worth the effort. We shared crabcakes and beefsteak tomato salad, I had 16 oz Prime Ribeye and the Missus had a 10 oz Filet Mignon. Everything was excellent, cooked to spec and tasty. Piano entertainment was on offer downstairs (Riverwalk level) when we visited; if you want a quieter space I suggest you ask for upstairs (street level) seating instead. Outdoor balcony seating is also available upstairs.
Highly recommended for couples and friends, those seeking a romantic option, and for business types wanting to make a good impression with a client. Not so great for families with smaller children.
We took a weekend getaway to SA, and my girlfriend and I made reservations to Brenners.
The cocktails were 10/10. For an appetizer we ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp which was OK. Our Entrée, was fantastic. We ordered the 10oz filet mignon which was cooked a perfect medium rare, and the crab stuffed shrimp. For sides we ordered mushrooms and au gratin potatoes, both very good.
Our server Connor made our anniversary that much more enjoyable. After dinner my girlfriend and I walked to a convenience store. Connor later walked in and I told my girlfriend, "Hey there is our server" He walked up to me and handed me my credit card, which I had apparently left on the table. Thank you Connor!
Little things like that make such an impact. Brenner's just got some repeat customers.
Highly recommend, overall a great experience!
I want to start by saying we are loyal guests at the original Brenner’s in Houston, Texas, where we have consistently received outstanding service. Because of that history, we chose Brenner’s on the River Walk to celebrate Valentine’s Day and my husband’s birthday with family. Unfortunately, what should have been a special evening turned into one of the most disappointing and uncomfortable restaurant experiences we’ve ever had.
Before we even ordered, my brother-in-law discreetly asked our server, John, if there was any small way they could acknowledge my husband’s birthday. His response was blunt and dismissive: “This is not a pizza place or a kids’ restaurant, we don’t do that here.” Regardless of policy, there are respectful ways to speak to guests, and this immediately set a negative tone.
From that point on, the service felt consistently rude and unwelcoming. When we asked how many crab cakes came in an order, the response, “Crab cake, singular”, was delivered with obvious sarcasm. Due to seating limitations, part of our group sat at the adjacent table, and when they tried to order, he replied that he wasn’t supposed to attend that table but would do it anyway, again with attitude.
Another guest ordered a whiskey with a Red Bull on the side and was told, “We don’t do that, you can go next door to CVS and get it.” Comments like this felt unnecessarily dismissive and unprofessional. At times, we genuinely wondered whether our accents played a role in how we were being treated, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.
The final incident occurred when John spilled a glass of wine on my pants. Accidents happen, but by then the overall experience had deteriorated so much that we decided to leave. My husband spoke with the manager and received an apology, but there was no meaningful attempt to make things right. We paid for the sparkling water and whiskey (including tip) and left.
Instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day and my husband’s birthday with our family, we ended up scrambling for a late dinner elsewhere around 11:00 pm. It was embarrassing and disappointing, especially because we chose Brenner’s based on our previously positive experiences.
This was, without question, the worst restaurant experience we’ve had. We left feeling insulted, uncomfortable, and regretful for bringing our family there. Sadly, this experience has completely changed how we view this location, and we will not be returning.
By the way, I am a Landry’s Select Club member, which is even more disappointing.

The experience was horrible from the moment we arrived. It all started with our waiter, John. My husband went to tell him it was my brother's birthday, and he turned on him in a despotic manner, saying that this was a fine restaurant, not a pizzeria. Then he came to our table with a terrible attitude. My husband ordered crab cakes, and John started correcting the way he pronounced them, correcting him three times. My sister was sitting with us at the next table, and she asked him to bring us some appetizers. He ignored her and said, "I don't serve your table," again with a despotic attitude. What was he going to do us the favor of serving them when we were all together and the bill was going to be one? We ordered a bottle of wine, and he asked if we were going to order. When we told him to give us a moment, he started cleaning the table in a rude and disrespectful manner, even knocking over his wine glass. My sister-in-law went there, it was a horrible experience. We left and complained to the manager yesterday, but he didn't even flinch. It was the worst experience we've ever had. I definitely don't recommend that restaurant in that specific location
