Burger Joint
With high-quality made-to-order burgers, a ‘come as you are’ environment and a strange reverence for Chuck Norris, there’s no place else quite like Twisted Root. Way back before ‘gourmet burgers’ was a thing, Chefs Jason Boso & Quincy Hart decided to build a restaurant around half-pound, fresh ground burgers with a menu that allowed customers to build their own burgers with a list of crazy and inventive toppings. The two met in culinary school, after jobs in stock brokerages and telephone line repair. After paying their dues working the line at The Four Seasons & Pappas Bros, Jason & Quincy finally opened Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas in 2006. Twisted Root appeared on the second season of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri (2009) and suddenly Twisted Root was a dining destination in Dallas. While Twisted Root Burger Co. has seen incredible growth, Jason & Quincy have stuck to their roots and their senses of humor, using a hands-on approach to high-quality, fresh food in an casual atmosphere with tons of personality.

This place was so good years ago… We were excited to come back and have burgers and shakes again. Sadly, it was incredibly disappointing this time around. Customer service (and general lack of friendliness) was as alarming as well as the poor quality of the food and shakes. It’s sad that this place isn’t what it used to be.

I would have given a better review but apparently you have to wait 2 minutes at the counter to get a to go box because everyone is busy on their phones up front. And talking with their gfs about things she already owns at home. No wonder service went down since a year ago.

When you walk in your greeted with dim lights, dingy looking signs and decor. Reminds me of a old general store not a restaurant, not for me but I was recommended here by my brother.
Wait at the register to be helped, watched a lady load buns up on the toaster thing and she turns around a just says "what do you want?" Place my order and she places my receipt on the counter tells me to sign the top copy and sets some cut next to it that say Brad Pitt. Im met a tip option, like this is a self serve restaurant that calls you up to grab your food and you get your own drink.
Next thing I observe while waiting for my food is they keep tubs of bacon, fries, onion rings and chips under heat lamps. Im talking big tubs that you can store clothes in, but food grade. Then I notice they already have over a dozen lettuce, tomatoes and onions already stacked together sitting on the cutting board not in a cooled container.
When I get my food it was so bland tasting and the burger looked like a pre-frozen patty from Walmart, taste and shape. I also ordered cheese fries, I received a handful of soggy fries with a slice of cheddar cheese laid across the top. I picked up the top fry and all the cheese peeled off and came with that first fry.

3/10/2026 at 2:05pm we came here for early dinner due to the incoming severe storms predicted for later today. I'm not going to review our dinner only the response from the (African American) gentleman employee behind the counter/food prep window. PLEASE NOTE that I'm only mentioning race so the restaurant owner and or mgr will know which employees to follow up with should they choose to do so. If I stated the "guy" behind the window, which guy we have several? While several guest chose this place to spend their money and to enjoy their afternoon dinner we were all approached by two male solicitors (1-white, 1 perhaps latino). These guys were asking customers for money to support their cause and in return they would hand out a trinket. Who knows if their cause is legit or not but that's not the real issue. The issue is a business is not the place for panhandling especially while guest are trying to enjoy their dinner. Would it be ok if a homeless person enters and goes table to table asking for donations? NO, I don't think so. So, why anyone else regardless of their cause? Who knows, maybe they are just trying to scam people out of their money. As I watched one of the two guys approach our table, I simply cut him off at the beginning of his spiel. I politely cut him off saying "we aren't interested and we are having our dinner". He gave me a look and wanted to plead his case and I again said "we aren't interested". He left and approached another table of 8. As we left, my husband stopped and mentioned it to the hispanic female employee behind the counter and her reply was "yes I know and I don't like it either". The gentleman (I mentioned above) behind the food/prep window leaned his head out and said "it was my choice to allow them in and not yours). My opinion, very unprofessional and disrespectful way to talk to your guest. I'm curious if this employee's response/behavior is something the owner would approve of? So, after all this, the owner and or mgr now knows which employee's were on duty, a description, and time of day to discuss the matter should they choose to do so. The appropriate reply would have been "I'm so sorry and we will immediately correct the problem so it doesn't happen again. By the way, was your meal ok?

Took the family out to eat and was extremely disappointed. The meat was bloody and when asked to cook a little longer our burgers were burned to the point it was as hard as a hockey puck and just as black...even the buns. On the freshman 15 the eggs were so overcooked it was like chewing on rubber. The cook gave dirty looks when asked to redo the food. Unfortunately what use to be a place we loved we will never go back!
