I would've been written up if I'd treated anybody that way when I worked at HEB. Deeply disappointed.

They were turning people away and would not let anyone into the store. I had just left 15 min before and returned because I forgot the milk. No mention of early close. I needed the milk for baking cookies. Bah humbug. Beware if you need something before closing.
