Drive Thru cashier tried to give me two $5s and a $1 as change when she should have given me one $5 and two $1s. I handed one $5 back and told her to swap for a $1. I'm no thief and I didn't want her cash bag short. Didn't even say thank you. Drive thru order delivery is not a good system. I am first in line and ordered a chili cheese dog and a Char-Grilled Maxwell Street Polish Sausage. Three different orders were completed before mine with the staff walking past my car to serve people who got there after me. And finally, the clerk walked out the bldg checking with all the other cars trying to find where my order went. Eventually had to double back. Not a fan of that process. Also, as a Texan...I was SHOCKED to find that their "chili" has beans in it. Not a fan of what they call "chili" AT ALL. One star lost for that. You need that disclaimer on your menu!!! The sausage dog was excellent. I will go back.

This is our second visit for my wife and I. First both nights were rather pricey. The first night my wife got the spicy chicken sandwich and I got a double cheeseburger, we also tried the chili dog. Burger and chicken sandwich were good, the hot dog was not good. It had a very gritty texture to it so we took one bite and trashed it, but not worth $5.99 as I can get a bigger, cheaper and better quality hot dog at toot and totem or Sam’s. Our second night we went back to try the chopped salad. These will cost you $12.50, let me tell you nothing like the picture. My wife got the Spicey it had maybe 8 small pieces of chicken. Mine honestly had only 2 I guess it’s grilled chicken chunks on it. I took it up to the counter asking about the chicken. The young man had the audacity to say hey there is a couple pieces on there and I said for $12.50? He said I can get you more and walked over to salad table as he added chicken the young lady he was talking to apparently thought it all was funny. Not real sure we will return, as I work to hard for my money for this over priced restaurant. Only half restaurant was full do a better job cleaning tables as you people are sitting in dirty tables and trying to clean their own.

So I only found out that they were open four days ago and today is my third trip there absolutely love it grew up in Villa park where they first opened! I felt my sandwich was as good as it always been. I can't even understand how people are writing bad reviews the first day my sandwich was a little on the dry side, but I chalk that up to the employees starting to learn what a dry versus a regular versus a dipped sandwich Those who don't like it don't understand the taste of a true Italian beef sandwich because these are just absolutely awesome. I am so happy to see that you are here. I got $300 in gift certificates for Christmas because we knew they were coming and my daughter surprised me . For those of you who don't like it soggy they do make it dry and for those of you who say it's bland add some of those hot pipers and it won't be bland anymore. It's such a nice change from all the Mexican restaurants we have around here so glad you've come to our town. I've been waiting 20+ years for you to come here. You have a customer for life! I can't read atmosphere because I've only gone through the drive-through.

This is a new place, so there’s obviously going to need to be a bit of grace extended due to this. We ordered a chili-dog, and an Italian Beef/Sausage sandwich. Both with fries. Not bad pricing, and you can either order from a person or a kiosk. We chose the person. She was quite helpful in navigating the menu and choices. Food came out, and it was pretty good. Beef sandwich was very good, but would probably just get the beef next time and not add the sausage. Just easier to eat. Hot dog was pretty good. Just a regular hot dog. Fries were good, but were so salty that we didn’t finish them. Food was fine, atmosphere is great. However the main problem we saw was with the employees. The ones behind the counter that were work were fine. However, there were several groups of employees standing in front of the drink station loudly talking and laughing, blocking the whole thing, and completely oblivious to the customers standing there waiting to get drinks. Ketchup dispenser was broken, and the same group stood and watched as customer after customer came to try to get ketchup, but could not. There were other employees standing around the restaurant leaning against things and staring at their phones. Not the look that I’m guessing the management wants for the place. Hoping they get this taken care of.

I believe there's a misconception amongst the negative reviewers as to what an Italian beef sandwich is. They are supposed to be soggy, the bread is dipped in the beef jus. It is on purpose. A lot of the flavor is also in the peppers, either sweet or hot (get both!). The hot peppers are actually a pickled relish of peppers and other veggies repacked in oil called giardiniera (this is the same "hot peppers" as you find at Potbelly) and it becomes addictive very fast if you can handle the heat of serrano peppers. If not, order it anyway and remove the serranos by hand - it won't be as hot but you're missing 90% of the flavor if you don't do that. You won't like this sandwich if you don't like pickles because IMO those hot peppers are the entire point, everything else is to make them shine. The sweet peppers are roasted bell peppers and they add much more flavor than you'd think as well. I'm serious, get both, even if you don't like peppers that much otherwise. But don't leave a bad review on account of the sandwich, because the one I just ate is exactly what an Italian beef is supposed to be. Portillo's in general (not just this location) may not make the best one on the planet as a fast food place, but they do offer a cultural food that cannot be found anywhere else in Lubbock. And that goes for most of their footprint in general outside of Illinois. I am so happy that the company did not chicken out on expanding here as others have done (looking at you, In n Out)! These sandwiches are going to be dangerous to my wallet because I live within walking distance!
