Recently I picked up four twelve packs of soda where you can get two free with the purchase of two. In most stores you can put in your phone number which acts as a customer loyalty program card and it then will apply any in store promotions to your purchase at checkout. When I got to the checkout I found out that belief was wrong! Instead you have to have a stupid app on your phone to get the promotion. Sorry, but I find this practice very deceptive!
