On Friday, January 23rd, my mother-in-law and I visited your establishment to purchase food for myself and my baby. From the moment we arrived, the experience was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional.
We waited at the counter while employees finished a personal conversation. During this time, we overheard an employee named Mathew state that he “didn’t need this job.” When I greeted him, I received no response—only an unfriendly expression. When I attempted to pay with a $100 bill, he did not communicate that it could not be accepted and instead told another employee to “take care of this,” without addressing me directly.
After ordering, our food took an excessive amount of time due to employees continuing to converse rather than focusing on orders. As someone who has previously worked in fast food, it was clear there was no sense of urgency and the operation appeared very uncoordinated. An employee loudly announced that we would have to wait several minutes for the fries. My mother-in-law asked if we could receive the rest of the order without the fries, though I stated I still wanted them, so we waited.
While waiting, my mother-in-law and I were having a private conversation in Spanish. At that point, Mathew loudly told us, “Speak English.” This comment was completely uncalled for, inappropriate, and discriminatory. We immediately felt uncomfortable and targeted.
When my mother-in-law addressed his comment, Mathew became argumentative and refused to take any accountability for his behavior. He continued to argue as we walked toward the exit. Other customers made comments to us on our way out, stating how rude the employees were and how poor the customer service is at this location.
I am deeply concerned about how Spanish-speaking customers are treated at this establishment if this is how an employee feels comfortable behaving openly. This interaction was humiliating and unacceptable. I submitted an online complaint and have yet to receive any response, which only adds to my disappointment.
I am requesting that this incident be taken seriously, properly investigated, and addressed. Discrimination and unprofessional conduct should not be tolerated in any workplace, especially one serving the public.
