Horrible!!!
I normally don’t write reviews, but after the experience I had today, I feel it’s necessary to share what happened for the sake of awareness and accountability.
I decided to stop at this Subway with my child so we could grab something to eat and finish up some work. The store appeared empty when we arrived, which I thought would make for a calm environment. However, the moment I walked in, I noticed a one-year-old child sitting alone in a booster seat directly in front of the cash register and the food prep area—completely unattended. I immediately assumed this was an employee’s child, and as a mother myself, I tried to give the benefit of the doubt. I simply found a table, set up my laptop, and asked my son to look at the menu.
Moments later, a woman—who appeared to be an employee—came out and abruptly asked, “White or wheat?” There was no greeting, no smile, not even basic courtesy. Her tone was cold and unwelcoming. My son and I hadn’t said a word yet, so the energy instantly felt uncomfortable and hostile.
I asked her, “Who are you talking to? You didn’t even say hello.” She glared at me and repeated herself with attitude, as though daring me to respond. I told her, “No, I’ll just leave.” As I gathered my things, I calmly told my son we were leaving because of her attitude. She snapped back, “No, I don’t have an issue.” I replied, “Yes, you do. You clearly do.”
When I said I’d be reporting the incident, she mockingly told me to go ahead and do so. I left the store and documented what I saw, including photos of the unattended child and the employee. I later called the store to report the situation because the level of hostility and lack of professionalism was unacceptable—especially in front of a child.
The energy in that establishment was disturbing. I’ve worked in customer service before, and I know what respect and professionalism should look like. This was neither. It’s sad to see how poor service and negative attitudes continue to thrive in some local businesses around Houston. Something deeper seems to be wrong at this particular location, and I believe it deserves investigation.
I sincerely hope Subway management takes this seriously and looks into the store’s practices, environment, and leadership. Customers should never be treated this way, and no child should be left unattended in a work environment like that.
