I went to SaltGrass a few days ago and had the most awesome server (Xavier? Javier? Sorry, forgot his name!) He was so patient and kind when it came to me placing my order and observing my dietary restrictions. He went above and beyond to put my game on the nearest tv, and didn’t complain when my party bugged the hell out of him for tiny things throughout the experience. If I return to Houston, I’ll be sure to ask for Javier (Xavier?), though with service like his, he may not be there long!

While in Houston, TX for the National Association of REALTORS convention, we had the fortune of going to Saltgrass Steak House. Right from the start, the evening was perfect. It started with sitting at the bar and having our drinks poured by Nadine. But it really went beyond that, because she really exemplified the vibe of the whole restaurant. My sister, introduced me to this word, ebullient. It means Effervescent. That’s Nadine. She’s a breath of fresh air. She exemplifies the culture of camaraderie, collaboration, and connection that is Saltgrass!! We also loved connecting with Sharod. Make sure to ask for Sharod as your server if you sit table side. He brings the joy along with an excellent dining experience.
I visited this place on 11/2/25 at around 6:15pm. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Me and my boyfriend were only able to try the appetizer, and I can’t lie the food was good. However, the service was horrible. We waited 15 minutes to be seated, we waited near 1 hr for our appetizer, and we never got our food and it was about 8:20pm. I wouldn’t have complained for the wait time but there was a party of 6-8 people behind us and they got served way before we did. Our waitress barely checked up on us. Our visit here was very disappointing. If you have all day to be waiting for your food I definitely recommend this place.

I have never had a poor quality, and taste-lacking steak before from a steakhouse. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. While I stayed across the street, I walked over, starving, due in part to the high-reviews, but it just did not pan out. Having been also not very sobor, I cannot precisely understand how or why it was such a poor experience. Any food should have been a delicacy in my previous state. I would have preferred a gas station pizza. My fiancé and I think back to our Houston trip periodically, and this stands out as the lowest point of the trip. Sorry guys, I prefer to give out 4-5 star reviews, but I could not do it this time.

A rough beginning that turned into a fulfilling ending.
When I first arrived, the hostess asked me to wait five minutes, but never returned to update me. I noticed her seating other guests ahead of me, and when I politely followed up, she seemed confused and asked for my name again. It was a frustrating start, as I was patiently waiting and unsure what was happening.
Thankfully, once I was seated, my experience took a positive turn. My server, Sharod, immediately noticed my frustration and went above and beyond to turn things around. He suggested his favorite drink and appetizer and provided exceptional service throughout the evening. His attentiveness truly made me feel seen and valued as a guest.
I also appreciated Shawn, the manager, who took time to check in and explain the seating process. Their combined professionalism completely reframed my experience.
I enjoyed the grilled pineapple cocktail and a perfectly cooked medium ribeye with mashed potatoes, both were delicious.
While my visit began rocky, it ended with warmth, care, and great service. When I return to Houston, I’ll definitely ask to be seated in Sharod’s section.
