Hubby and I rolled into this place for our big “first-time” date night—because we’re in our 40s now and spontaneous means making a 6:30 reservation like responsible adults. Turned out to be hilariously unnecessary since the dining room was emptier than my willpower at a dessert cart. Only five other tables occupied, but hey, we had a plan and a booth by the window, so we were living large. The vibe is super chill and classy, perfect for people-watching. We spent a solid ten minutes entertained by some kid outside dramatically filming his F150 like it was about to drop a mixtape. Iconic. Our server Brian was an absolute gem—super personable, attentive, and clearly still in his training-wheels era. When Hubby ordered the smoked Old Fashioned, another server swooped in to demo the smoker thingy like Brian was performing open-heart surgery. Round two? Brian gave it the old college try, but the smoker gadget straight-up rebelled. Then who I assume was the manager materialized to “help,” which basically meant hovering and micromanaging poor Brian right in front of us. Bro, the thing wouldn’t light for the manager either, so it clearly wasn’t a Brian problem—it was a “this smoker hates all of us” problem. Brian, if you’re reading this: solidarity, king. I’ve had bosses literally breathe down my neck while I worked. That trauma is real. You still crushed it. Meanwhile, my lemon drop martinis? Flawless. Not too sweet, not too tart—just right. Goldilocks would have proposed on the spot. Food-wise? Lord have mercy. Started with the R.C. Ranch Wagyu Carpaccio—10/10, no notes. I legit licked the arugula clean like it was a side salad and I was a starving rabbit. My main: the M&S Grilled Oysters. Sweet baby Jesus, 20/10. I’ve been loyal to Rouxpour and Perry’s oysters for years, but these betrayed my past loves in the best way. Next-level sorcery. If I could time-travel, I’d slap past-me and order double oysters, skip everything else. OMFG. Also got the Prosciutto di Parma Flatbread—delicious, solid 9/10—but let’s be honest, rating it a full 10 would be straight-up disrespectful to those god-tier oysters. Hubby went with the R.C. Ranch Wagyu Steak Frites. Fries? Crispy perfection. Steak? Cooked like a dream. That pepper sauce though? Way too committed to the “pepper” part of its name. Bold, aggressive, borderline rude. He gives the whole plate a diplomatic 7/10. Overall, Brian and the food (especially those oysters) carried this place hard. We’ll absolutely be back—probably at 6:30 again, because old habits die hard.

McCormick & Schmick's has been a go-to fine dining restaurant for my wife and I for a few years now. In fact, I have reviewed them on here before and gave them alot of compliments with a 5-star rating. We went there for Christmas dinner in 2024 and had a great experience and decided to do the same for 2025. After this last experience, we just might take a break from McCormick & Schmick's for a while.... The reservation was made well in advance. In fact, the restaurant called us to ask if we'd be joining them again this year (we had already planned on making a resevation). My wife said "yes" and set the reseveration for Christmans Day with a special request for a table by a window which is always our favorite spot. When we got there, this request was completely disregarded and we were walked back about as far out of the way as possible. We asked that they put us where we'd originally requested and after a few minutes they complied. All in all it wasn't a huge deal, but why ask us if we have any special requests if you're just going to ignore them anyway? The server was the sort who asks what you want and rather than simply letting you answer, he felt the need to list every single possible option. That is as rude as it is annoying. I will never understand why people feel the need to do that. I do not need to hear every drink choice in the place just to order a glass of water. The service in general was pretty subpar. My daughter ordered iced tea and spent most of the meal with no drink because the only time a refill was offered was when she still had an almost full glass of tea, which is pretty stupid. When she was out of tea, she didn't get the chance to ask for more because when the server brought something, he basically dropped it on the table and hurried back to his larger, more lucrative tables where he seemed to be providing very good service indeed. Further, we were all out of water because the lady walking around with the water pitcher passed our table many times without so much as a glance. We asked the server for more water an still didn't get it. Overall, we were severely disappointed with the service and actually felt like annoyances to a staff focussing on the larger groups who would be ordering and tipping more. As to the food, while it was not all bad, there were some issues there as well. My wife and I ordered wedge salads, which cost about $13 each. What we got were not wedge salads. We got bowls with large flat discs of lettuce with a single piece of bacon thrown on with some bleu cheese crumbles and some dressing. Basically we spent $25 on two salads that looked like they were made by a 7 year old. I ordered the "whole fish of the day". It was a seabass that was served fried with cucumber sauce (I'm not even gonna try to spell the real name) with some little fried potatoes. The fish, while actually tasting decent, was more akin to fish jerky than an $50 fish at a fine dining establishment. The cucumber sauce might have helped, but it was just a smallish amount UNDER the fish where it was mostly absorbed by the potatoes and completely useless to the soul-suckingly dry fish. To be fair, my wife got the redfish and it turned out good. I guess 1 out of 3 ain't bad.......? Lastly, My daughter ordered the wagu steak fries. While the meat was cooked correctly and it was technically what the menu said it was, it was plated as if by the same 7 year old who made our salads. It most certainly did NOT look like a $49 meal. Very disapponting and at least a little bit insulting. $250 for a meal I could make better at home.

We celebrated CJ’s surprise 18th birthday at McCormick & Schmick’s Houston, and the evening was unforgettable. The food was outstanding—“pure deliciousness all around,” in the birthday boy’s words. Marissa went above and beyond with her kindness and thoughtful support, setting the perfect tone for the celebration. Jazz and Luther were phenomenal, anticipating every need and adding warmth and care that made the night effortless and special. Thanks to the entire team, CJ’s milestone birthday was filled with joy and wonderful memories. We’ll definitely be back for future celebrations!

This is not fine dining. Save your money if fine dining is what you are looking for. It takes a lot for me to take the time to leave a negative review, but this experience was that bad. We waited an unreasonable amount of time just to place our drink order, waited forever for our food (over an hour) , and were barely checked on the entire night. Also, food itself was below average. For the amount of money spent, the service was absolutely not worth it. This was a company party, and sadly it was a completely different experience from what we had in 2024. Whatever standards this restaurant once had are gone. The staff clearly needs serious training in fine dining. Do not bring a company party or large group here, you will be very disappointed. Save your money and spend it elsewhere, or you’ll leave just as frustrated as we did. We will never be back.
