My boyfriend and I just came here to get two ice creams. We BOTH bit into pieces of foil, multiple pieces. I thought it was bits of coffee bean until I looked down. This is extremely dangerous and it was not just on top of the ice cream it was deep down in there - I looked through the rest of the ice cream. Please fix whatever is going on.

Stopped here on recommendation from Instagram and we were not disappointed, in fact, WE ALMOST BOUGHT EVERYTHING IN THE STORE! They pull taffy in the store which is fun to watch and they'll throw you a fresh piece to sample. Staff is very helpful and friendly. They'll stack all you candy for you and follow you as you go from display to display picking out all of your favorites. Don't be embarrassed. It's all yummy. This is a must-stop when on the Strand.

We love to watch the taffy being made and make sure to visit on every trip. Today we purchased several filled milk chocolates and a pecan cluster with white chocolate. This is always a favorite past time. I have been bringing the kids here since they were little and we love to bring family to visit. We look forward to many more visits in the future. We would love to try the fountain sodas and ice cream next time!

We’ve visited La King’d for years and never had a poor experience until this weekend. We wanted to surprise our grandchildren and treat them to candy and ice cream. We took all 3 and got in line to choose our flavors. I don’t know if this is a new process or if it’s because we had a large group but the manager kept rushing us down the line even yelling across the store. Rather than allow more than one person scoop our flavors at a time, the policy is you have one person assigned to your group and this meant rather than us getting through quickly with the concept “many hands muskets light work” and then they move on the to next in line, they had several workers standing waiting for us to finish our scoops before they’d take the people behind us. This caused a bottle neck and was definitely not an efficient handing of customer flow. It was embarrassing to us and frustrating to those behind. We won’t be back any time soon given this experience cost over $100 on ice cream and candy all to be rushed and yelled at across the store.

As a BOI (Born on the Island), La King’s has always held a special place in my heart. Walking through those doors instantly feels like stepping back in time. The smell of fresh caramel, fudge, and chocolate hits you right away, and suddenly you are ten years old again with a pocketful of change and a huge smile on your face.
The atmosphere is pure nostalgia. The old-fashioned counters, red-and-white striped awnings, and vintage candy jars are the same as they’ve always been. There is something comforting about how little this place has changed over the years. It is part candy store, part soda fountain, and part living memory of Galveston’s past. The employees are always friendly, patient, and happy to help you decide when you’re torn between chocolate-dipped everything or homemade fudge.
One of my favorite parts is watching them make saltwater taffy right in front of you. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a batch being pulled and wrapped, and the smell alone is worth the visit. It is mesmerizing to watch, and kids (and adults) always crowd around to see the process.
The candy selection is endless. There are barrels of old-school favorites, creamy pralines, handmade chocolates, and more flavors of taffy than you can count. Their ice cream and root beer floats are fantastic too simple, classic, and delicious. Whether you stop in for a treat, a souvenir, or just to relive a piece of childhood, you’ll walk out smiling and probably with a bag full of goodies.
La King’s isn’t just a candy store; it’s a Galveston tradition. Every visit reminds me why locals and tourists alike love this place. It’s sweet, nostalgic, and one of the happiest spots on the island.
