I like HEB. The people are great and the quality is usually great too. Beware of these new baskets though. The lock wheel malfunctioned within the boundaries in which it's confined, and it slammed into my shin. It unlocked after malfunctioning, but I'm not impressed.

The curbside service is ABYSMAL. And I might add there are borderline fraudulent practices associated with HEB's curbside service.
Generally speaking HEB screws up one item on every curbside order, typically by omitting something you paid for. Not sure why exactly, but in the past I have never done anything about it, just figured it was a "tax" for not having to walk around inside with all the miserable, entitled idiots circling the store as though they were the only person shopping. Anyhoo, this week I ordered $430 worth on groceries for curbside pickup, including a lot of high end meats and other items for the holidays. I arrived ten mins early, in fact exactly two minutes after I received a text notification indicating my order was ready and I should let them know when I had arrived. Sent text as requested then proceeded to sit and wait for better than 15 minutes while a half dozen cars came after me and left before me. I guess showing up on time means nothing here. Got the order home and realized two things: there were quite a number of items missing that i had paid for (confirmed on receipt), and they had given me three bags of items that didn't belong to me.
I decided to call and complain. Used the telephone prompts to reach curbside, where a young sounding man helped me out. He didn't seem very surprised at the situation, and has definitely been placed in this predicament before. He took down the list of missing items (about $40 worth) and let me know I could do a "reshop" or receive a refund. A reshop is the term they use when they need to send another worker into the store to collect the missing items, then you as the customer get to drive all the way back to the store to get what you should have been given the first time. They will apologize, but your time, fuel and convenience are lost because of some absent-minded high schooler who can't count (by the way, the reshop will be handled by someone in the same high quality personnel pool).
Went back for the reshopped items the following morning. They brought everything out quickly this time. I told the delivery person I was bringing back the extra items I received, as I promised I would, and she gave me the look that said "we don't really care about that". Doesn't matter, I said I would bring back and I did. Got home to find they still didn't get everything right, one item was wrong and the "2 lbs. tri-color onions" bag had one white and two yellow onions (no red), and weight 1 lb, 10 oz. Looks like it was packed wrong. Of course, grab that one! man, what a massively disappointing experience, especially after dropping so much cash on one grocery order.
Did you know that HEB charges "between 7 and 8" percent for each and every item on your curbside order? That's about $30 added to my $430 bill. It is never disclosed until you realize (by looking at meat tags) that the amount on the item is lower than what they charge...There is ZERO mention of this fact anywhere on the HEB website, other than a meek statement that your delivery order MAY have fees associated with it, and that these fees are clearly shown on your receipt (they are not). So, in summary, I paid $30 extra for the privilege of two screwed up orders, two separate trips to HEB, and about 80 minutes of partially wasted time. Buh bye, HEB.

literally have been coming here my whole life and i’m about to stop because of your cashiers. maybe tell Billy E. to acknowledge customers, sorry I guess he was annoyed that I interrupted his conversation with the bagger who also didn’t give me the time of day. he didn’t say hi did not acknowledge me and then just stood there looking around after scanning my items didn’t even announce my total it was just bizarre. crazy how many people lack basic human decency and normal interactions. probably seems like a minuscule complaint but it’s ridiculous, i could never imagine treating customers that way.

I’m sorry to say this, as much as I love this Heb today wasn’t a good experience with self check out customer service. This morning I had a small cart with a few groceries and went to try to check out my items. There was only two other customers checking out in that area, so it wasn’t busy at all. When I tried to go to my usual check out spots this short, dark haired, chubby employee lady right away sternly told me to move to a different one. I’ve used that machine before, so I asked her if there was something wrong with it? She said “No” and sternly just repeated for me to move to the one she wanted me to go instead. I asked again why? What was wrong with the machine? She said because the “scale of my cart” doesn’t fit well with that machine”. Mind you, I’ve used that machine with the same small size before PLENTY of times in the past, and no other employee has ever told me anything like that. There was only two other customers in that check out area (meaning the place wasn’t busy at all, it wasn’t crowded. It was early morning on a Wednesday, around 8:30 or so). She was very stern and just with a bossy attitude, like she was having a power trip over simple check out machines and their “scale sizes”. I’ve never had this experience before here, I LOVE HEB!! Everyone is always so polite, helpful and act professional. But this lady is definitely not the representation of Heb I’ve experienced before.

Personally, I don't even know how this company gets away with a hiring process that ensures the best service in every location , no matter which location but I'm glad they do. This is probably the single best business model in the entire country. Everything about it feels old school and worthy of an American brand. Plenty of checkouts, self checkout moves quick, selection of brands is good with H-e-B often having the better quality and taste. Their fully cooked chickens are a favorite of mine THe BBQ oven roasted one is 7 bucks. I use the chicken leg bones for broth for beans and soups. Highly recommend. Never once was a chicken overcooked or undercooked or made me sick from bacteria from sitting too long. Every detail in this company is seemed paid some kind of attention. It shows. I don't always agree with them on prices, but this is a seriously impressive company.
