I've been craving a burger from Portillo's for a while now. I usually drive out to Tucson or Phoenix for one. Last time I had one was in Nov 2025 out in Illinois while visiting my future in-laws.
Any who, I ordered my burger and a male employee comes running to the girl outside who was taking my order reminding her they ran out of burgers. How do you run out of burgers? The employee who handed me my hot dog at the window/door didn't bother to put any condiments in the bag. Yupp, I had to settle for a hot dog which bummed me out even more, she let me know the owner is playing it safe.
I mean Sir, you can't play it safe! You opened up a Porillo's in a border city with a military base. Mind you, we have Alamagordo, Las Cruces, Dell City, Ruidoso, Van Horn, Sierra Blanca, Marfa, & White Sands as neighbors & don't forget Juarez. You're establishment is the closest one to them if they're craving Portillo's.
It's not about being safe, its about having an outstanding establishment as the original one.
3rd time I go and leave without a burger and no strawberry shortcake either.

This was amazing! From the service to the cleanliness and of course the food! If you dont think these are good hotdogs, its cause you've never left El Paso! We had one of each hotdog and the beef sandwich. All of it was delicious amd great quality and attention to detail. Also I hate going to a restaurant with dirty tables. And here, they had a staff of people making sure the restaurant looked nice and clean for all the guests, I really appreciated that. We will be back for sure!!
This was my first visit to this new restaurant, and although it was very busy, the experience was excellent. As someone with limited vision and a picky appetite, I truly appreciated Sabrinna’s help—she patiently walked me through the menu, explained each item, customized my order, and even assisted my son. She, along with the rest of the attentive staff, made the visit enjoyable. The food was delicious and introduced me to flavors I didn’t expect to like but really did. The location is a bit inconvenient, so I’m hoping to see more locations on the west side soon…….hint hint
This Portillo's location is off. They are not like their other locations. They don't have the full menu like all the other locations and The way they wrap the food is skimpy, like they just toss it in the bag. No care with little effort. They only use one parchment paper to wrap the Maxwell street polish. And only 2 for the Italian beef. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume everyone want grilled onions. I dont have to have it that way if i don't want it, it's a suggestion to have grilled onions. I was excited to know you were here and I had planned to visit everyday but after the 1st 3 days I got tired of having to have extra time set aside for them to remake my order. I went by today and sure enough my order had to to be remade. I'll go by if I'm in the area but I won't make a special trip.

I'm always excited about a new place, especially when it comes to good food.
With that said, Portillo's menu is your typical American backyard cookout menu;
burgers, hot dogs and drinks. However, their twist is the Italian beef sandwich which tastes delicious! Their cheese dipping sauce is just like melted Velveeta with a little more consistency, nothing to make your tia worry about her chile con queso recipe. Drinks are your typical fountain offerings. Service was a little slow and hectic but was to be expected for their opening week.
However, their atmosphere is way ahead of any of the fast food chains. With their 40s-70s nostalgia garage/gas station decor, you want to stay a little bit longer and down a couple of the draft beers they have on hand.
Overall, I would visit Portillo's once in a while to satisfy a craving for that Italian beef or Chicago style hot dog.
